Couples, Families & Honeymoons
Just a forty-minute remove from the bustle of Nairobi, The Emakoko sits on the southern edge of Nairobi National Park. Here, surrounded on all sides by gazelles, giraffe, buffalo, zebra herds and even prides of lion, guests will find themselves instantly transported to the beauty of the Kenyan Bush.
The Emakoko is the life’s work of Emma and Anthony Childs, a dedicated pair who have built the lodge from the ground up. As a result, the Emakoko exudes a welcoming, family air.
From its local chefs whipping up their very own delicious recipes, to the comfort of reclining in the library after an exhilarating day of game drives, guests will revel in the home-from-home they can experience at The Emakoko. Ten beautifully-appointed bedrooms make up the Lodge, and each comes with a private veranda for non-stop game viewing.
A typical game drive will see guests exploring the spectacular National Park under the guidance of one of the lodge’s extraordinarily knowledgeable guides, including Anthony himself, but the game-viewing doesn’t stop just because you’re back at camp. From the resident lawn-mower (a hippo particularly at ease at The Emakoko) to the occasional baboon visitor, guests will enjoy being firmly ensconced in the local environment.
If you wish to explore beyond the park, guests can enjoy the famous David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, home to its eponymous pachyderm residents, as well as rhino calves, or alternatively head along to the Giraffe Centre, a conservation home for the endangered Rothschild’s Giraffe. Alternatively, cultural excursions to art and design studios can be arranged.
The main Emakoko Lodge houses ten beautifully-appointed bedrooms, each with a balcony or veranda and a view over the plains. All rooms are en-suite, with guests able to choose between luxuriating in a tub or taking a refreshing shower. An outdoor pool offers the perfect environment for lounging about in the afternoon and can sometimes even entice the Park’s animal residents, who have been known to use it as a watering hole!
The Emakoko’s most recent addition is the private house: a stunning two-bedroom residence, built atop a cliff and featuring breathtaking views over the National Park. Designed to appeal to guests in search of seclusion and discretion, it features a private bar, pool, dining room, chef and vehicle.
Where dining is concerned, guests will be surprised and delighted by the Head Chef’s flair for gastronomy. With considerable talent, Swahili twists are put on international cuisine, from French and Italian (the Emakoko even has an outdoor stone-fired pizza oven), to Indian and Thai dishes. Salad vegetables come fresh from the Emakoko’s gardens and all food is sourced as locally as possible. An in-house boutique sells accessories made by local craftspeople, whilst a welcoming spa offers an irresistible opportunity to relax.
Offering a homely feel and tasteful touches inspired by Africa’s cultural heritage, The Emakoko’s spa, boutique, restaurant, pool, living room and bedrooms offer a home-from-home for safari goers.
Locally sourced and cooked with flair, The Emakoko serves guests with passion every day. The Emakoko is particularly happy to tailor its dishes for children.
It’s deeply important to Wayfairer that we recommend properties which focus on offering sustainable, whilst beautiful, accommodation. The Emakoko is a strong choice for guests seeking comfort with a conscience. A range of initiatives are in place at the lodge itself, and, in addition, The Emakoko involves itself with numerous charities and projects. These include providing local children’s sports teams with equipment and kit, supporting the charity Rhino Ark, which safeguards rhino in the region, as well as equipping local homes with innovative LED Lighting system, designed to deter lions and other wildlife from approaching human settlements or livestock herds. This in turn has eradicated human-wildlife conflict and therefore protected wildlife from being shot by communities trying to protect their livestock and livelihood.
