Days 1-4: Masai Mara

Day 1 - Arrive in Nairobi & fly to Masai Mara

We offer a ‘meet and assist’ service on all our Kenya holidays. This means that as soon as you disembark from your international flight you will be met by a Wayfairer representative and escorted through immigration, customs and baggage collection. Your representative will remain with you until you meet your driver in the arrivals area. Your driver will then transfer you to Wilson Airport (domestic airport) where you’ll board a light aircraft flight to the Masai Mara.

Upon arrival at the Masai Mara you will be met by a representative and driven to your safari lodge or camp, enjoying a game drive en-route.

We use a number of award-winning safari camps and luxury lodges within the Masai Mara and the outlying conservancies and we will ensure that we select the most suitable accommodation for you. The facilities at the lodges and camps are equal to any 5* hotel anywhere in the world. Whether you’re staying in a chalet at a luxury lodge or in a spacious canvas tent at an upmarket camp, you can typically expect king-size beds with quality bed linen and mosquito nets and en-suite bathrooms with fully flushing ceramic toilets, washbasins and hot showers.

Day 2 - On safari in the Masai Mara

Your day will start with a morning game drive exploring the plains and forests of the Masai Mara. This iconic reserve is regarded as one of the best wildlife viewing destinations in Africa and it is renowned for its big cats, with lion, leopard and cheetah all in abundance. You’ll also see large herds of zebra, impala, gazelle, wildebeest, buffalo and elephant, as well as hippos and crocodiles along the riverbanks.

After your morning game drive you’ll return to your camp or lodge for a delicious lunch. The luxury lodges and camps that we use are typically booked on an all-inclusive basis which means that your breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included, as well as mineral water, house wines, soft drinks, beers and non-luxury spirits.

After lunch you’ll have time to relax before your afternoon game drive. Whilst on a late-afternoon game drive your driver and guide may stop the vehicle on the plains and set up a small table and director’s chairs so you can sit and enjoy a gin and tonic as you watch the sunset.

This evening you’ll dine with other guests at your lodge or camp. You’ll sit around a large communal table and the main topic of conversation will undoubtedly be about your wildlife sightings during that day. Most lodges and camps also offer alternative dining options and you may prefer to enjoy a romantic, candlelit meal on your private deck or even out in the bush under the African sky.

Today you’ll have early morning and late afternoon game drives with a highly experienced and enthusiastic local guide who will expertly locate lions, leopards, cheetahs and other wildlife. Your lodge or camp may also offer the opportunity for a night game drive where you may see nocturnal animals such as porcupines, aardvarks, civet cats, white-tailed mongoose and honey badgers.

Day 4 - On safari in the Masai Mara
Hot air balloon over Masai Mara, Kenya

As well as game drives there are a number of other activities that you can participate in during your time in the Masai Mara, including cultural visits to Masai villages and markets, guided bush walks, horse riding, black rhino tracking experiences, or you may wish to take an early morning hot air balloon flight over the plains and forests of the Masai Mara.

Days 5-11: Zanzibar

Day 5 - Fly Zanzibar & transfer to the beach
View of Nungwi Island, Zanzibar

This morning you’ll have time for one final game drive before lunch at your lodge or camp. After lunch you’ll be transferred to the airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft flight to Nairobi where you’ll take a connecting flight to Zanzibar.

Upon arrival at Zanzibar’s Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) you’ll be met by a representative and driven to your accommodation where you will stay for the next seven nights.

With its spectacular sunsets, pristine sandy beaches, clear turquoise waters and colourful coral reefs, this exotic island is the perfect honeymoon destination. We offer a wide choice of accommodation options on Zanzibar, from simple chalets on remote beaches to luxurious hotels set in tropical gardens and an exclusive resort situated on a private island. Our Guide to Zanzibar’s Best Beaches will give you some ideas and inspiration about where to stay, and of course our Luxury Travel Specialists can offer suggestions about the most suitable accommodation based on your requirements and sense of style.

Day 6 - Zanzibar Beaches

Today you can relax and enjoy your first full day on the tropical island of Zanzibar.

Your accommodation may have facilities such as a swimming pool, tennis courts, a gym, a spa offering a range of massages and treatments, and a water sports club offering wind surfing, kite surfing and sailing, plus snorkelling and diving.

Day 7 - Zanzibar beaches

There’s a wide choice of adventure activities that you can participate in during your time on Zanzibar, including mountain biking, hiking, bird watching, wind surfing, kite surfing, stand up paddling through the mangroves, sea kayaking and sailing, plus the island has fantastic coral reefs which are perfect for diving and snorkelling – and you may even be lucky enough to see dolphins, green turtles and, at certain times of the year, whale sharks.

Days 8 - Zanzibar beaches

There are plenty of excursions that you can join during your time on the island, including visits to Prison Island, Mnarani Turtle Sanctuary, the spice plantations and cultural tours to local villages.

Day 9 - Zanzibar Beaches

Today you may wish to take a day trip to the Jozani Chwaka National Park which is one of the last remaining sanctuaries in the world of the red colubus monkey. The forest also has a variety of other wildlife, including sykes monkeys, bush pigs, Ader's duiker and suni antelopes, elephant shrews, chameleons and lots of birdlife and butterflies.

On this fascinating excursion you’ll have an opportunity to explore the colourful bazaars, the labyrinth of winding alleyways and discover the ancient stone houses, carved wooden doors, Arabian arches, latticed windows, and overhanging balconies. You may also wish to visit cultural places of interest, including the Portuguese Fort, the old Dhow Port, the Old Slave Market, the Sultan's Palace, the House of Wonders, Livingstone House, the Hamamni Baths and the Persian Baths of Kidichi.

Day 11 - Zanzibar Beaches

Today is your last full day on Zanzibar. You may wish to spend the day relaxing, engaging in activities or exploring the island further. We recommend that you enjoy your final Zanzibar sunset on a sundowner cruise onboard a traditional dhow.
