Set in Nairobi National Park, this warm homestead offers a unique safari experience in the city

Cost Per Night: £ £ £

This beautiful old ranch has been converted into a boutique lodge that just oozes charm. Situated atop the ridge of Mbagathi River, which is the border for Nairobi National Park, you can enjoy the home comforts of the lodge as well as the beautiful scenery and lovely wildlife.

Bought to life by the lovely Australian owners, you’ll enjoy the warmth of a family atmosphere and the superb ‘paddock to plates’ dining experience fresh from the 20-acre working farm out back! Cosy up to the fire in the colder months and enjoy great views across the park as you sit outside by the pool for lunch in the warmer days. There is an eclectic mix of different styles for your room choice. Due to the history of the property, each room has been converted from the original purpose, creating something a little different for each person’s budget and style.

Unfortunately, the international airport flight path crosses over the lodge, so for lighter sleepers, it may not be the best choice. However, that aside, it’s a beautiful location with delightful staff, a great sustainable lodge with good wildlife viewing, and worth a couple of nights' stay in any itinerary.

Ololo's Positive Impact

Ololo Safari Lodge epitomises eco-conscious hospitality, prioritising sustainability and community upliftment. Partnering with Wildlife Direct, Ololo spearheads the "Greening Schools" rewilding initiative, planting trees at local schools to offset carbon emissions and educate youth on the necessity of environmental conservation. Through the Ololo Foundation, the lodge also supports projects like St John’s School in Kibera, Africa's largest slum, funding infrastructure development and educational initiatives.

The lodge boasts the Ololo Organic Farm, a hub for diverse agricultural practices like fruit orchards, dairy farming, and composting. Fresh produce from the farm enriches the restaurant's offerings. Ololo's "Ololo Worm Tea" fertiliser and water conservation efforts further minimise its ecological footprint. Ololo likewise employs primarily Kenyan staff, with a focus on hiring from local communities.
