Ireland: Wild coasts and lyrical cities
Ireland’s landscapes roll from bog and mountain to sea cliffs and quiet coves. Dublin mixes literature with lively pubs and Georgian streets. Galway fronts the Atlantic with music and markets, while County Cork bends around peninsulas and gardens. County Donegal keeps a wilder edge with high cliffs and open moor. Evenings bring storytelling, song, and a warm firelight glow.

When to go to Ireland
Winter is cool and quiet. A good month for Dublin, Galway, and country-house hotels with fires, music, and no crowds. Expect shorter days and some rain.
Still wintery but very peaceful. Great for city breaks, food, distilleries, and coastal walks on clear days. Good hotel availability and value.
Spring starts to appear. Daffodils, longer days, and St Patrick’s Day bring energy back to towns. A nice time to see Ireland without summer visitors.
One of the nicer shoulder months. Countryside turns green, hedgerows blossom, and it is mild enough for day touring in the west and along the Wild Atlantic Way.
Often the best month. Long daylight, gardens in bloom, comfortable temperatures for older travelers, and good driving conditions. Ideal for a classic Ireland circuit.
Early summer with long days and soft light. Great for castles, gardens, and scenic drives. Busier but still manageable.
Warmest time of year, though still mild by US standards. Festivals, music, and coastal villages are lively. Good for families and multigenerational trips.
Similar to July, with holidaymakers across the country. Still a lovely time for coastal walks, Connemara, and boat trips. Book early for popular areas.
A very good month. Crowds thin out, the sea is still relatively warm, and the weather stays pleasant. Perfect for couples and slower itineraries.
Cooler, with beautiful autumn color in the midlands and parks. Good for history, food, and pub culture. Rain is more frequent but rarely all day.
Shorter days and a quieter Ireland. Best for those who want to sit by the fire, explore cities, and enjoy lower rates. Occasional bright, clear days.
Festive and friendly. Dublin and the bigger towns sparkle, and country houses feel very cosy. Good for short winter getaways.

County Donegal
County Donegal is located in the north-west of Ireland, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the southwest, west, and north, and by the counties of Derry, Tyrone, Fermanagh, and Leitrim to the east and south-east.

This remote region offers a dramatic counterpoint to the south, dominated by the soaring Slieve League Cliffs, which rise three times higher than the Cliffs of Moher yet remain blissfully uncrowded.
Inland, the hauntingly beautiful Glenveagh National Park invites exploration of its castle gardens and golden eagle habitats. This is the heart of the Gaeltacht, where the Irish language, traditional tweed weaving, and music still thrive. Guests can retreat to historic castle hotels or intimate coastal lodges, enjoying fresh seafood and warm hospitality in a destination that offers a raw, authentic connection to Ireland’s wild spirit.
