Saruni Samburu - A family-friendly luxury villa

Families, Couples & Honeymooners

Saruni Samburu is located at the heart of the Kalama Community Wildlife Conservancy, which lies within the Girgir Group Ranch in Samburu land.

Roughly seven kilometers from the Northern border of the Samburu National Reserve, this unique area of land borders other notable untamed areas of outstanding beauty, including Ngutuk Ongiron to the west and the Namunyak Community Conservation Trust to the north. Kalama acts as a crucial migratory landscape, where herds of animals roam between different conservation areas.

With plenty of family and single villas, Saruni Samburu has a family friendly and relaxed atmosphere that is perfect for many different types of travellers. Guest spaces melt effortlessly into the rocks, which blend modern luxurious style with warm and traditional Kenyan features.

With a wide range of activities to match the welcoming environment, including different safari experiences where you can explore the landscape by vehicle or foot, there are plenty of ways for you to explore the beautiful environment. Some of the activities on offer include day and night game drives, cultural village visits, visits to local caves, helicopter excursions, and warrior courses, to name a few.

Treat yourself to massages and treatments at the wellbeing space, home to expert therapists and beautiful views of grazing animals. Make use of the two infinity pools, and ask your Samburu warrior guides about Kalama and beyond.

The camp is the perfect place for photographers too, being home to an extensive state of the art hide by a watering hole, which provides the perfect opportunity to photograph elephants and other animals up close.

The lodge

Saruni Samburu offers six luxury villas look out on to the beautiful Kalama Community Wildlife Conservancy, and effortlessly blend into the rocky outcrop of clay red and green plains. Family Villas are truly spectacular; two large en-suite bedrooms, outdoor showers, and a fire-lit veranda with uninterrupted views over the landscape are undeniably first class facilities. Enjoy large living and dining areas and double vanity bathrooms to make your stay extra comfortable.

Single Villas benefit from the same facilities, in a one bedroom set up. Single Villa Five is the famous honeymoon suite which is built into the edge of a hillside, where a romantic canopy bed opens out onto the plains, with just a fence and roof separating you from the environment. Noted in many publications as the most amazing room in Africa, this spot is undoubtedly popular with honeymooners.

The cuisine at Saruni is Italian-inspired, using mainly fresh and local ingredients, and there is a daily three-course set menu. The lodge offers communal dining hosted by the staff, and in room private dining can be arranged too. Picnic breakfasts by the river and bush dinners accompanied by dancers are unique memorable experiences.

You can spend your free time in the infinity pools, photographer’s hide, wellbeing space, communal area with stunning views, and the shop.

Eat fresh Italian inspired cuisine in different locations at a time that suits you, and make sure to be at a sun downer.

Why Wayfairer

Saruni Samburu works alongside the Northern Rangelands Trust to improve the welfare of the local Samburu people who own the Kalama Conservation Area, and is providing them with income generated by tourism for the first time in their history. This additionally encourages conservation efforts, while the lodge itself is eco-friendly.
