Families, Couples & Honeymoons
Laikipia Wilderness Camp is a five-tent safari camp offers guests an authentic bush experience in a homely and family-friendly environment. This area is just one and a half hours north of Nanyuki, and is one of the best places in Africa to spot wild dogs as well as elephants, lions, leopards and other big and small game. Set in the Ol Doinyo Lemboro Ranch, the camp specialises in fantastic game walks, often led by professional Zimbabwean guides and game drives. With a variety of trips on offer which can be customised to suit your interests and ability, as well as three family sized tents, Laikipia Wilderness Camp is a wonderfully accommodating place. Enjoy comforting surroundings, such as generously sized tents, en-suites, and open air showers.
No two days are the same when it comes to Laikipia Wilderness activities and the camp doesn’t adhere to the usual rules around activities at set times with set agendas. You may plan on a morning game drive, but then find yourself tracking a pack of wild dog on foot or if the heat of the day gets a bit much you may well pull in at a nearby river pool for a quick dip and a glass of freshly made juice. Other activities on offer include rock climbing, fishing, rafting, birding and fly camping. Game and night drives are an action-packed experience; hold onto your hats because with no other camps nearby and no off-roading rules your driver goes truly off the beaten track.
Owned and built by a family with decades worth of safari experience in Southern and East Africa, Laikipia Wilderness Camp is the place where you feel like you’re staying with friends. All five tents are en-suite, and some tents are close together specifically for families. Tents can sleep three people comfortably and bed preferences can be changed in relation to your group. Equipped with comfortable, cosy furniture and charming fabrics, each tent is built on a platform with a private veranda and has a separate, open-air en-suite bathroom constructed of natural materials. The tents have hot and cold running water with excellent pressure, solar power 24/7, and there is a charging area in the reception area.
The camp’s lovely central reception tent has a dining room, sitting room and library. Guests gather to eat under the stars on the decked veranda accompanied by a campfire. You may also find yourself eating wonderful breakfasts, lunches, and dinners in different outdoor locations, such as by a open flame BBQ or by a watering hole. You never know where you might find yourself enjoying a delicious meal each day. The camp is always on hand to arrange private family dinners or romantic meals, too.
Walking safaris, game drives, fly camping, birding, village visits, rafting, and more are on offer and are suitable for families.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner consists of wide-ranging international dishes and local delicacies. Private meals can be arranged.
The camp is minimal in its construction, and so it’s footprint. They have made use of recycled fabrics and glassware and the furniture and décor is almost exclusively made by local artisans from the surrounding communities. Laikipia Wilderness Camp also works closely with the Laikipia Predator Project, collecting data from sightings of wild dogs, leopard and lions, some of whom are fitted with radio collars. Guests can participate in the research during their stay here.
