The great migration, Mount Kilimanjaro, Big Five safaris and paradise beaches
A luxury safari in Tanzania is like no other. Witness the great migration across the Serengeti, conquer Kilimanjaro, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, watch hippos in Lake Manyara, tick off Africa's Big Five, then after East Africa's best safari experience, relax on island beach resorts. The iconic Serengeti National Park is home to the "Greatest Show on Earth," the great migration. On a Serengeti safari, watch herds of wildebeest, zebra and more as they embark on their annual cycle of Tanzania and Kenya's Masai Mara, all while staying in luxury safari lodges. The Ngorongoro Crater is a remarkable ecosystem for wildlife and the local Maasai community. This is the perfect spot for Big Five safaris in Tanzania (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino), as the crater is home to endangered black rhino. The often missed Tarangire National Park provides walking safaris, night safaris and fly camping trips, whilst nearby Lake Manyara National Park is home to pink flamingos, pods of hippos and primate species. Far-flung western Tanzania might be difficult to reach, but those who make the effort are rewarded with the pristine wilderness of Katavi National Park, packed with wildlife and few visitors. This is often combined with the stunning shores of Lake Tanganyika and the Mahale Mountains National Park where you can trek to see chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Getting off the beaten path, the southern parks include Nyerere National Park and Ruaha National Park. Enjoy off-road game drives, boating safaris and game viewing in regions which rival the Serengeti in terms of wildlife diversity and density. Safari adventures and a high concentration of predators, including huge prides of lion, herds of elephant, and the endangered African wild dog, sets these parks apart. Although wildlife safaris are what bring most visitors to this East African destination, Tanzania tours have plenty more to offer travelers looking for an East African adventure. Take on Africa's highest peak with an epic Kilimanjaro trekking expedition, relax on Tanzania's coast at Dar es Salaam, visit Lake Victoria, one of Africa's Great Lakes, or hop over to Zanzibar and its surrounding islets to relax on pristine white sands and swim in turquoise waters. A country in epic proportions, Tanzania safari tours offer once-in-a-lifetime experiences, from dawn break on the horizon from the "Roof of Africa," to the thundering stampede of wildebeest migration, to diverse marine life off Pemba Island in the Indian Ocean.

When to go to Tanzania
Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is best between December and March or July, August and September, when conditions are drier. Tanzania's safari destinations are also best visited in the drier seasons, as wildlife is easier to spot when most of the vegetation dies off and animals congregate around the remaining watering holes. The great migration is notoriously difficult to predict but key months are January and February when the herds can often be found calving on the short grass plains of the southern Serengeti. Later in the year during July and August the animals are typically in the northern Serengeti and attempting the treacherous crossing of the Mara River into Kenya.
