Today you arrive at Entebbe International Airport, here you will be met on arrival and transferred to your first hotel, The Boma.

This lovely boutique guesthouse is the perfect place to relax and unwind after arriving in Uganda. The Boma Guesthouse is set in a lush tropical garden with a view of Lake Victoria. Asides from the pristine pool, there is also a small playground for children to play while adults can enjoy classic garden games such as croquet or boules.

With Entebbe city is only a few minutes away and the mood to explore strikes - pick up one of their rental bicycles and make your way to the Botanical Garden. The rainforest surroundings will probably remind you of something out of an old Tarzan movie. It’s also a great area to spot Colobus monkeys and birds.

Whilst around Entebbe there is lots to do, we can include a lovely sunset cruise on Lake Victoria or a trip to Ngamba Island (Chimp Sanctuary). Or head out to Mabamba Swamp on a boat cruise to try and find the elusive Shoebill Stork! A brilliant addition is the behind-the-scenes tour at the UWEC (Uganda Wildlife Education Centre) where you get to learn about some of the great work going on and have up close encounters to some of the wildlife.

Bwindi is part of the larger area dubbed Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, located is south western Uganda in the western reach of the great Rift Valley. Sharing the border with Virunga National Park you’ll enjoy an impressive backdrop of mountains soaring to 4,500m.

This area is really spectacular, with vast species diversity, including 120 species of mammal, 350 species of bird (23 which are endemic to this area), 220 species of butterfly and so much more! Of course, the most famous inhabitant is the endangered mountain gorilla, with half of the worlds remaining population being found here.

Why Wayfairer

Throughout this itinerary you will be staying in accommodation we have chosen because it is in line with our values on sustainable tourism and preserving local communities. Uganda is working extremely hard to allow tourism to grow alongside retaining it's cultural heritage.

Responsible tourism has saved the last of the Mountain Gorillas from extinction: proving the sustainable value of tourism outweighs the short term temptation of poaching. Your trekking permits and National Park fees contribute to the ongoing conservation efforts in Bwindi National Park.
