Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Entebbe

Day 1 - Arrival in Entebbe

On arrival into Entebbe you will be collected by your guide and transferred to your hotel for the night. Depending on arrival times you will be able to explore the sites in and around Kampala. You will be able to enjoy views of Lake Victoria from the hotel. You can chose to have dinner at the hotel or we can recommend good spots for food and drink around town.

Days 2 - 3: Queen Elizabeth Naitonal Park

Day 2 - Entebbe to Queen Elizabeth National Park

This morning you will enjoy breakfast in Entebbe before flying on to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This stunning park is located at the base of Rwenzori Mountain range, adjacent to Lake Edward and Lake George. It is full of game and particularly known for its large elephant population.

Day 3 - On safari

Activities include traditional game drives as well as boat safaris into the Kazinga Channel. This stretch of water joining Lake Albert and Lake George is home to hippos, crocodiles, buffalo and beautiful bird species endemic to the region.

An optional activity is a hot air balloon over the area.

Day 4: Ishasha

Day 4 - Queen Elizabeth to Ishasha

This morning you prepare for another action packed day as you drive to the base of the Kyambura Gorge; home to chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, colobus monkeys, baboons and vervet monkeys. You then drive on to Ishasha, on the border with the Congo and famous for its population of tree climbing lions, you will arrive in time to relax at the lodge or enjoy a game drive. The lodge is surrounded by wildlife and has some stunning views of the lush forest.

Days 5 - 6: Bwindi National Park

Day 5 - Ishasha to Bwindi National Park

Today you drive for 3 hours into the Virunga Mountains. You will be staying in Bwindi National Park, the only park in Africa that is home to both gorillas and chimpanzees. There are also a further 110 species of mammal and 360 birds.

Day 6 - Gorilla Trekking

This morning you will wake early and prepare for your gorilla trek. This is a humbling experience and you will be allocated to one of nine habituated groups that call the mountains of Bwindi home. The allocation of which group you track is based upon fitness levels, preferences and size of parties. The groups are located at varying distances from the base, they can be less than an hours trek away or up to 8 hours. Following your incredible day in the forest with the gorillas you will return to the lodge and relax.

Days 7 - 8 : Murchinson Falls

Day 7 - Bwindi National Park to Murchison Falls

This morning you will enjoy breakfast at the lodge before flying from the nearby Kihihi airstrip to Murchison Falls, via a short stopover in Entebbe. You will arrive in time to enjoy a late lunch at the lodge, relax in your comfortable room and go on an afternoon game drive in the park. Murchison Falls is home to all of the big game and unique in its variety of different landscapes.

Day 8 - On Safari

We recommend a game drive first thing in the morning followed by a boat safari in the afternoon. This national park is full of big game and its diverse terrain offers brilliant experiences. The Falls themselves are accessible by boat or you can hike to the top with your guide.

Day 9 - Fly home

Day 9 - Fly home

Following a morning safari activity or time spent relaxing at the lodge you will fly back to Entebbe in time for your international flight home.

Why Wayfairer

Throughout this itinerary you will be staying in accommodation we have chosen because it is in line with our values on sustainable tourism and preserving local communities. Uganda is working extremely hard to allow tourism to grow alongside retaining it's cultural heritage.

Responsible tourism has saved the last of the Mountain Gorillas from extinction: proving the sustainable value of tourism outweighs the short term temptation of poaching. Your trekking permits and National Park fees contribute to the ongoing conservation efforts in Bwindi National Park.
