Couples, Families & Honeymoons
Mweya Safari Lodge is located in the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park in southwest Uganda. Set on a peninsula above the Kazinga Channel and surrounded by the Rwenzori Mountains, this wonderful safari lodge offers incredible views from all its rooms and cottages.
Guests can enjoy morning and afternoon/evening game drives in Queen Elizabeth National Park in search of leopards, lions, buffalo, elephants and other wildlife.
As well as game drives on the vast savannahs, the lodge offers other activities including guided bird-watching walks and boat trips on the Kazinga Channel.
Boat excursions on the Kazinga Channel offer a fantastic contrast to a land-based safari and during your cruise you’re likely to see hippos (the Kazinga Channel has the largest concentration of hippos in Africa), Nile crocodiles and a variety of birdlife.
You might also see herds of elephants as they come to the water's edge at the point where the Kazinga Channel meets Lake Edward.
Mweya Safari Lodge has two boats for game viewing – the ‘Sunbird’ which seats ten passengers in comfort and the luxurious ‘Kingfisher’ which seats twelve and serves refreshments and canopies during the cruise. (Both the Sunbird and Kingfisher have experienced guides and crew, and necessary safety equipment).
Mweya Safari Lodge also offers the opportunity to explore the dense rainforest of Kyambura Gorge in the far eastern corner of the park, where you can search for habituated chimpanzees, plus red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, olive baboons, and black and white colobus monkeys.
Accommodation at Mweya Safari Lodge comprises of 32 standard rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom and a balcony overlooking the lake below, 12 deluxe rooms with en-suite bathroom plus air-conditioning, and a honeymoon suite which is located in a private corner of the camp next to a waterhole that is often frequented by elephants. There’s also two luxury cottages, (The Queens Cottage and The Presidential Cottage) and two spacious family cottages (The Rwenzori Cottage and The Royal Cottage), plus four luxurious tents with en-suite bathrooms and ceiling fans.
Facilities at the lodge include a stunning infinity pool which overlooks the Kazinga Channel - from the pool or the poolside sun loungers you can look across the channel and spot wild animals cooling off in the waters below. There’s also a spa which offers a range of massage and treatments, and a gym, sauna and steam room. Guests at Mweya Safari Lodge can dine in the formal dining room or outside on the veranda which offers fantastic panoramic views. The lodge also has a bar where you can relax after a day of game viewing and watch the sunset over Lake Edward and the Kazinga Channel.
The property features a spa offering massage treatments, a fitness centre, an infinity pool, restaurant and bar, plus poolside bar, gift shop and information centre.
The restaurant serves a combination of international cuisine and local specialties, and they have a bbq and traditional dancing every Saturday night. Packed lunches and room service are also available.
We aim to work with hotels and lodges that are committed to helping their local communities. Mweya Safari Lodge are working with the community to expand their local primary school to accommodate the growing number of students. The primary school in Kazinga Community requires maintenance and additional classrooms at a cost of approximately $15,000. Mweya Safari Lodge contributes $1 for every guest staying at the lodge to help towards this ongoing project.
Mweya Safari Lodge also supports the Pack For A Purpose initiative and guests are encouraged to bring items in their luggage for Kazinga Catholic Primary School.
