This lovely riverside lodge is ideal for your stay in Murchison Falls National Park, built under the shady trees on the banks of the Nile with hippos and elephants swimming just outside! Murchison River Lodge is situated directly on the southern bank of the River Nile overlooking Uganda’s largest national park, Murchison Falls. From the vantage point of the lodge bar and restaurant you are treated to panoramic views of the park and the infamous River Nile as it flows downstream between papyrus islands and pods of hippos.
The falls themselves are one of the big attractions to this wonderful park and with its own private jetty Murchison River Lodge can organise boats to come pick you up right from the lodge! Take a cruise up and then hike to the top to really appreciate the majesty or these mighty falls.
Completely off grid, the concept and design encourages gentle engagement with nature without compromising on comfort. This lovely mid-range accommodation, either in safari tents or cottages offers a relaxing stay. Enjoy the cool swimming pool, sit on the sunset deck and watch the elephants cool off in the heat of the day or jump on a boat from the private jetty for your delta cruise.
With the building of the new bridge across the river upstream you will be able to head out early to the best wildlife sights on the north bank. Before returning for a dip in the pool and some yummy lunch. This lodge is ideal for families and couples alike with large room, great views and warm hosting you will thoroughly enjoy.
The main communal area offers fantastic views across the river and the park beyond, all built from big stone and thatched roofs it offers a cooling area to relax during the day. All your meals will be served here, tuck into wholesome meals before heading to the fire pit to enjoy some chat or entertainment.
There are four different accommodations styles on offer here, thatched cottages, thatched safari tents, comfortable camping and a campsite. All dotted around the bush ensuring it never feels very crowded. The thatched cottages are tucked away in the bush and built on two levels, making them ideal for families looking to getaway and enjoy your own space. The thatched tents are much the same with three being down on the river offering great views.
This is a great lodge, with a large dining and lounge area as well as a fantastic curio shop and reception all in the main area. There is a swimming pool tucked away which is also the only place with WiFi, so great to hang out or laze in a hammock! There is also a small children’s play area next to the pool.
There is private dining in the main dining area, for a more romantic evening tables can be set up in the gardens for more privacy and eating under the stars! Here you will enjoy fresh meals sourced from local ingredients and enjoy the fresh fish right from the Nile.
Sustainable conservation combined with the empowerment of the local community is something Murchison River Lodge has, in recent years, spent time focusing on. They offer staff training programs, host a women’s group, work closely with the Ugandan Wildlife Authority and the Ugandan Conservation Foundation and promote local businesses.
They also use fresh local produce supporting the surrounding communities. With many staff being hired from the area it continues to empower and promote tourism in the area.
