Mihingo Lodge is a luxurious tented camp perched on a rocky outcrop with spectacular views across the Lake Mburo National Park.

Each of the 12 luxurious tents is uniquely designed and have novel ways to bring nature into the rooms. From bathrooms being designed around exposed rock to the bedrooms each having different layouts to fit with the environment, the only thing that’s the same is the stunning views of the valley below.

From the private balconies, you may be able to spot herds of buffalo, eland, impala and zebra grazing near watering holes. The balconies offer spectacular views over southwest Uganda are unforgettable and so are the staff.

The owners of Mihingo Lodge are a friendly European couple who spent most of their lives in Africa and go out of their way to show guests the best of East Africa.

They’ve constructed Mihingo Lodge with the least possible impact on the environment, everything runs on solar power, grown or built from local materials and yet still maintains incredibly high standards of comfort.

Mihingo Lodge has so much to offer guests that two nights is the minimum recommended stay. From land and water safaris in Lake Mburo National Park to horse safaris at night, cultural visits to nearby villages, hiking and birding excursions, and even bush courses for kids - they offer something for every traveller.

The lodge

Perched on a rocky kopje, Mihingo Lodge has 12 tented rooms with mixtures of double and twin rooms, built into the hill. The Buffalo and Waterhole rooms are located further down the property, far from the main lodge but offer maximum privacy and great views of the wildlife. The rooms are all unique and well designed to fit into its location, with most construction materials found on the property or nearby.

The rooms are private and spacious, with canvas tent windows for walls, ensuite bathrooms with solar-powered hot showers and some bathrooms have incorporated granite boulders into the design. Outside walls have been constructed with African soil, which helps keep the rooms cool and since the lodge is high up, cool breezes negate the need for air-conditioning. The lodge is environmentally friendly and every care has been taken to ensure that there is no negative impact on the environment.

Facilities

Families and children can easily be catered for, and staff are on hand to plan trips and safaris through the local area.

Dining

The thatched dining area has possibly the best views in the whole lodge and so breakfast, lunch and dinners are even more appealing.

Why Wayfairer

Mihingo Lodge one of the most sustainable properties in Uganda. They are carbon neutral, they run the lodge on solar power, all building material comes from local sustainable sources and staff are hired locally. Food from the restaurant is grown on the property for the freshest meals, rainwater is caught, treated and reused and all waste is recycled. One of the owners also started the Mihingo Conservation & Community Development Fund with the aim of preserving the wildlife outside the Park and reducing human-wildlife conflict.
