Perfect For

Couples & Families

Located on the edge of an extinct volcano, Ndali Lodge is perfectly situated in Western Uganda. Set in the middle of a 1000-acre fertile farmland, it is also the home of indigenous trees, birds, monkeys and other endemic wildlife.

With eight cottages, spacious enough to accommodate families, one can settle into the tranquility of the area. The owners, Aubrey and Clare will be more than just hosts; they will make you feel like family. Even their three friendly lodge dogs are prepared to show you around the grounds or cuddle.

Soak up the advantageous views of both Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Nyminambuga from the convenience of your private verandah. But don’t admire the beauty from afar; follow one of the two the connecting passageways to the crater lake. Go for a refreshing swim or go kayaking on your own self-guided exploration. Then, end your day by watching the sun set behind the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains, from the convenience of your bathtub.

This is the perfect setting to delve into a digital detox and recharge via the splendour of the lush settings. Electricity here is all solar powered, while dinners are set aglow by candlelight. While mornings are just as invigorating watching the morning mist lift from the lake while you eat homemade bread with wild Ugandan honey spread.

An indispensable activity is the Chimp Trekking at Kibale Forest, which is only a 40-minute drive from the lodge. Other guests will also venture out on boat trips, visit Bigodi wetland sanctuary, go on guided walks across coffee terraces, banana plantations or simply chill by the pool.

The lodge

There are eight stone and thatch cottages, all decorated with regional artefacts and locally handcrafted furniture. Each cottage is spacious enough for a family, equipped with a dresser, double/twin bed, en-suite hot/cold shower, bathtub and a private verandah. Other guests adore soaking in the bathtub and gaze out the windows to the sweeping view of the lake.

As the cottages aren’t crowded together, they still offer easy access to the main lounge area, bar, pool and dining room. It is a unique delight after a full day of activities, to settle into a calm candle-lit four-course dinner where most of the produce is farm-to-table. Within the main area as well there is WiFi but more importantly a great space to sit and cozy up to a book from their library.

Facilities

Inflatable kayaks are available for guests to enjoy and use at the lake

Dining

Meals can be served either in the indoor area or on the outdoor deck

Why Wayfairer

This green boutique lodge gathers most of its food produce from the surrounding farmland. Even the water that is used at Ndali Lodge comes directly from a hydraulic ram pump invented in the 1770’s. They are also actively involved in community projects such as local vanilla plantation, sponsorship of local community students to University, and building a nursery school.
