Mabira Rainforest Lodge is a luxury eco-lodge set within the nature rich Mabira Forest Reserve in the heart of Uganda. This serene and tranquil lodge overlooks the dense rainforest and guests can enjoy spectacular views of the surroundings from their wooden cabins or from the lodge’s restaurant, bar or open lounge.
Mabira Forest Reserve is located between Kampala and Jinja. Rich in biodiversity - including a number of endemic and endangered species - the forest boasts 312 different species of trees, 315 species of birds and 218 species of butterfly.
Guests at Mabira Rainforest Lodge can explore the reserve and enjoy activities including guided walks with the lodge’s in-house naturalist, mountain biking along the forest trails, and zip-lining.
The lodge also offers guests a unique opportunity to track rare Mangabey monkeys. Mabira Forest is one of the few places in Uganda where you can see Mangabey Monkeys and there are three habituated groups which can be tracked with guides who were a part of the habituation process.
After enjoying activities within the forest you can return to the lodge and enjoy a drink at the Canopy Bar as you listen to the sounds of the crickets and watch red-tailed monkeys jumping from tree to tree around you.
At night you’ll hear the sounds of owls hooting and you might even hear the loud, terrifying, territorial calls of a nocturanal tree hyrax.

The lodge
Mabira Rainforest Lodge was built using sustainable and local materials to create a unique lodge that blends into the Mabira Forest surroundings and atmosphere. Guest accommodation at the lodge comprises of twelve wooden cabins (seven double and five twin), each with en-suite facilities (with hot showers). The cabins feature comfortable beds and beautiful wooden furnishings, plus they each have an individual balcony overlooking Marbira Forest and huge netted windows that offer incredible views of the dense forest.
The lodge’s Legacies Restaurant offers international and local dishes prepared by a professional chef, whilst the Canopy Bar has an extensive selection of beers, wines and spirits and offers daily cocktail specialties. The Elements Lounge, a multi-level open lounge with comfortable seating and 360-degree views of Mabira Forest is a fantastic place to relax after a day of activities. The lodge has a lovely outdoor swimming pool with poolside sun-loungers, and there’s also a sauna. Relaxing massages can also be booked.

Mabira Rainforest Lodge serves a substantial breakfast (perfect before heading out for a day of activities in the forest), plus lunch and dinner which includes international and local dishes.

The lodge runs on hydroelectric power, they use energy saving bulbs, meals are cooked on gas and hot water for showers is heated by solar power. The lodge uses natural cleaners that will not pollute the surrounding forest, and they ensure that they recycling all plastic and paper products. There is also a tree nursery that is growing indigenous forest species to replant areas that have degraded within the forest.
