Located at the edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the Buhoma Lodge is the closest entry point for mountain gorilla treks. With only a five-minute walk to the trailhead, one can indulge in the possibility of a close encounter with the elusive mountain gorilla early in their day, or sleep a little later without missing out.

Buhoma Lodge has 10 cosy eco-chalets; all constructed using only sustainable materials to reduce their footprint impact at this unique location. Whether you are a honeymooner, family or a solo traveller, you will find that their spacious rooms will provide the right amount of soothing isolation within the African wilderness.

From the private verandas, you might even feel you are in a treehouse as you soak up the uninterrupted view of the forest, and the verandas are also excellent places to birdwatch.

Buhoma Lodge is fully equipped with an elevated lounge, spa, restaurant and bar facilities making it a comfortable rustic home while in Uganda. Should your body feel tired from the day’s activities, complimentary massages can be arranged, or mingle with other guests by the open fireplace when the evening chill sets in.

Other recommended activities near Buhoma Lodge are bird/butterfly watching, a Batwa Cultural Experience or a waterfall forest walk. Before you leave should want to purchase a memento of your stay Buhoma Lodge has a small gift shop with a range of locally made crafts.

The lodge

All ten chalets at Buhoma Lodge were constructed using only sustainable materials, fitted with insect-proof window screens, solar-powered lighting, private viewing deck, ensuite bathroom (some rooms include a bathtub), hot and cold water. Of the ten rooms, one is dedicated as a honeymoon/family suite, which features a separate lounge complete with open fireplace.

The open-air lounge and bar is the perfect spot to share your day’s experiences with others whilst letting the crisp forest air invite you closer to the fireplace and to the bar. Recharging and wireless Internet facilities are available within this main area of Buhoma Lodge, while the rooms stay distraction free. No trek could feel more satisfying then refuelling yourself with a four-course meal made from only local produce giving you an authentic Bwindi experience and a taste of Uganda.

Since the lodge is solar powererd, recharging of personal electronics or WiFi is limited to the central lounge area.
