Amongst 22 acres of rainforest and tropical gardens, right next to the ocean on the leafy shore of Sihanoukville Bay, this gateway to nature has been welcoming guests since 1964.
Villas, suites, studios, eco-pods and luxury guestrooms are set in historic golden age architecture, with features such as a private beach and ocean promenade. This striking blend of enviable facilities and views makes the Independence Hotel a must-stay for a tailor made luxury holiday to Cambodia.
The first beach resort in the country, the Independence was a new project that King Norodom Sihanouk invited luminaries around the world to stay at. Jacqueline Kennedy, for example, stayed here in 1967.
The property has its own pristine white sand beach, a long pier and a terrace-promenade by the beach, which leads to an infinity pool over the ocean. It’s the ultimate beach resort, complete with landscaped gardens and mature tropical trees. The beach is equipped with sunbeds, a playground, tennis courts, volleyball fields and a club offering light meals. There is a second pool in the resort which has its own bar, plus a gift shop is open selling locally-made souvenirs.
The Independence Hotel's Jouvence Spa and Fitness centre is home to a range of wellness treatments, modern fitness machines and an area for instructor-led fitness classes - ideal for those looking to stretch their legs after an action-packed itinerary of Angkor exploration and city sightseeing trips.
There are multiple dining spots onsite, making the Independence Hotel great for families looking for relaxation and comfort. The Oceanview Restaurant serves a variety of cuisines in gorgeous semi-open air surroundings, whilst the Coral Restaurant is the main indoor restaurant, open throughout the day.
Guests can stay in the History Building, featuring contemporary rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows and divine views of the bay. The rooms combine traditional Khmer elements and modern design, offering a king-size bed or twins, plus spacious bathroom with a large bathtub and shower.
The villa side of the resort is a secluded area with a range of private villas and semi-detached rooms. The Family Suite is comprised of two generously appointed bedrooms with their own en-suites, a large living and dining area, plus a kitchenette. The Pods Village is made up of Eco and Maxi Pods in a jungle environment, offering contemporary minimalist and eco-friendly living areas.
The hotel is home to first class beach resort facilities, such as tennis and volleyball courts, two swimming pools, a private beach and more.
The resort has a range of dining spots, including an indoor and semi-open air restaurant serving up international cuisine, plus a lounge for cold drinks.
The Independence Hotel has taken the initiative to address environmental, social and cultural issues in the region. Reducing the property’s energy consumption, the hotel also supports the local communities, especially disadvantaged children living in poverty.
