Much of the Okavango Delta is split into private concessions, with strict limits on the lodges and the number of guests that can visit each of these areas in order to minimise any disturbance to the natural order of the environment.

NG32, within which Kiri Camp sits, contains some of our favourite lodges, and it is a legendary concession well-known for great wildlife throughout the year. It is particularly famous for wild dogs, at times harbouring some of the largest packs in Botswana and exciting buffalo and lion interactions.

Activities from Kiri Camp will depend on the water levels in the delta, as this fluctuates throughout the year with the annual flood from the highlands of Angola.

During the months of peak water (normally June to September), motorboat safaris will be possible, along with fishing and mokoro trips. As well as this, the usual morning and afternoon game drives will explore this beautiful and remote part of the Okavango ecosystem. As this is a private concession, night drives and some off-roading are also possible, and depending on guide availability, so are walking safaris.

The Camp

Kiri Camp is made up of a total of 10 tents, of which two are designed for families. All ages are welcome at Kiri; however, a private vehicle is required for families with children under the age of six. Due to the likelihood of wildlife around the camp, as well as the adult feel of the camp, we generally think this camp works best for children who are slightly older than six and with a genuine fascination with wildlife. Each of the luxury tents is raised up on wooden decks overlooking the vast floodplains surrounding the camp. The front of the spacious rooms opens up almost completely to give you unobscured views of the landscape and of the passing wildlife. The design aims to echo safaris of old but with a blend of modern and comfortable touches. The en-suite bathroom is partly open, giving wonderful views of the glittering night sky and further enhancing the connection to the surrounding wilderness beyond the canvas walls.

Facilities

Facilities at the lodge include electricity, hot and cold running water and flush toilets inside the tent, a communal swimming pool, a spacious main area including a bar, a lounge and a dining area.

Dining

Dining normally takes place communally, either in the open dining area of the main area or perhaps under the night sky on the spacious raised deck.

How this resort makes your trip more responsible

The operator behind Kiri Camp is committed to reducing and minimising its environmental impact and ensuring the footprint of the camp is as sensitive as possible to the surrounding wildlife. An obvious initiative employed by the camp is to give guests a refillable water bottle when they arrive at camp. They are encouraged to refill this at water points around the camp, and guests are welcome to take this bottle home to use in the future, reducing the use of plastic.
