Set on the southern tip of Zanzibar in one of the most tranquil spots on the island, Unguja Lodge is an exclusive beachfront lodge surrounded by beautiful beaches and lush greenery.
This tropical haven is hidden away on a quiet stretch of pristine beach, and has only 10 private villas and two family houses.
It's the perfect place to wind down after an adventurous safari, or simply to escape the crowds and immerse in nature.
Unguja Lodge is built around the existing natural vegetation, merging seamlessly around the ancient mango and baobab trees.
Here wildlife thrives and you'll share the area with many indigenous and endangered animals including red colobus monkeys, black tail monkeys, chameleons, dik diks, tree hyrax, elephant shrew, bush babies, and many different kinds of lizards.
Unguja Lodge is perfect for romantic retreats or family getaways, and there's plenty to do. Start your mornings at the wondrous breakfast buffet, filled with local fruit and freshly baked pastries.
Once energised and ready to explore, follow the nature trail to the permanent tidal beach for a refreshing swim or sunbathing session.
If you're interested in an underwater adventure, visit the on-site 5-star PADI dive centre where you can arrange a fun dive or take a full certification course.
Rashid and the staff are friendly and welcoming, and are more than happy to show you the best of Zanzibar. You can take a walking tour of the nearby Kizimkazi village, or go on excursions to exotic spice plantations, Prison Island, Stone Town, Menai Bai or Jozani Forest Reserve.

The lodge
Unguja Lodge offers an exclusive experience with just 10 villas on the property, all beautifully furnished in traditional Zanzibari styling using natural materials. There are also two family houses, perfect for large groups or a family getaway. The villas offer an intimate retreat for couples and feature coconut wood furniture, mosquito nets, ceiling fans, and separate bedrooms and living rooms.
The sea view villas have an an open shower, a private terrace overlooking the ocean, and an open-air design with large thatched roofs allowing the fresh sea breeze to circulate through the room. The baobab villas are nestled beneath ancient baobab trees and boast a whirlpool plunge pool and air-conditioning. The main area of the lodge features a centrepiece pool and an onsite restaurant and bar serving Swahili recipes with a European twist.

Unguja's facilities include an outdoor pool, 5-star PADI dive centre, yoga classes and spa treatments.
Dining
The onsite restaurant and bar services a breakfast buffet, lighter lunch menu and 3-course dinner menu, and vegetarian options are always available.
