If you’re looking for a jungle-trekking, elephant-watching, temple-hopping, kayak-paddling, bike-riding, beach-flopping extravaganza, then this is the family adventure for you. This family adventure to Thailand encapsulates everything a great holiday should: oodles of adventure, eye-popping new sights, captivating stories and, of course, plenty of time for some R&R in paradise at the end.
Your dedicated Wayfairer Travel representative will meet you upon arrival at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) airport. Enjoy a private transfer to your hotel, where there’ll be plenty of time to relax and recharge after your long flight.
You will be staying at the Rosewood Bangkok, which is brilliantly equipped to take care of little ones… and their parents. The Rosewood’s sense of place philosophy is perfectly poised to engage youngsters with the exciting and vibrant new culture they find themselves amidst.
Your Wayfairer Travel private guide will further this philosophy on a first foray into Bangkok’s lively streets. A dusk walk will mean that it is cool enough to enjoy the sights and get some dinner, perfect for a gentle introduction to the city.
Today, you will take to the skies, rush along the water, rattle along in a bus and weave through streets on-foot, during an unforgettable introduction to the clash of cultures that is Bangkok. From the ultra-modern BTS (Skytrain) which zips past futuristic skyscrapers, to the traditional canal boat that snakes along the timeless Chao Phraya River, you will uncover the secrets and stories that Bangkok begs to tell during your privately guided, full-day tour.
Along the way, you’ll find glittering palaces, delicious food, bustling street markets, hidden corners and some of the world’s most remarkable Buddhist temples… and you’ll even pay a slightly gruesome (but very significant) visit to Wat Hua Lampong where Thais make merit with a very important action…
This morning, enjoy a leisurely morning in Bangkok before travelling to Chiang Mai. Get settled in before striking out on an exciting self-guided walk around Chiang Mai’s beautiful old town. An ancient walled city, Chiang Mai is known for its proliferation of glittering temples, nestled at the base of densely-forested hills, which are visible on a clear day. Discover the secrets of the ancient Lanna Kingdom and contrast the vibrant traditional costumes with the culture you encountered in cosmopolitan Bangkok.
On your second day in “The Rose of the North”, elephant-lovers might just have the best day of their lives. Visit the iconic Elephant Nature Park, where you will have the privilege of experiencing a herd of happy elephants in an entirely ethical manner. You’ll also be able to spend time with the herd, watching bath time and enjoying meal time alongside them. Elephant Nature Park is one of the only Elephant Sanctuaries in Thailand which is truly responsible, and we are proud to be a partner.
This morning we transfer to Lisu Lodge, a community-run enterprise run by members of the nearby Lisu Hill Tribe. Your local guide will take you for a walk in the village, so you can discover places of cultural and spiritual significance. As well as explaining the heritage of these traditions, your guide will also help you understand culturally-sensitive etiquette.
Your first visit is Ton Lung temple, a place where local people go for spiritual guidance. The temple’s herbal garden has many medicinal plants that are used by the villagers. Your next stop is the shaman’s house. You will have a cup of tea and chat with him about his spiritual practice.
The next day, enjoy an action-packed but calmly-spaced day. A gentle 13-kilometre (8 mile) scenic bike ride will take you past verdant rice paddies and along to a tea plantation nestled in the hills. Pause here for a rest, enjoying the magnificent rolling landscape and a tour of the plantation, before continuing to the river.
After a light picnic lunch, enjoy 45 minutes of breath-taking white-water rafting that will take you downriver to a small village in the countryside. From here, you will be picked up and returned to Lisu Lodge, where you will enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at leisure and the evening will be spent learning to prepare a traditional Thai feast.
Enjoy a final, relaxing, morning at the lodge, before to Thailand’s scenic south. Upon arrival at Surat Thani, you will be transferred by boat to the luxury floating raft houses at Panvaree, just in time for dinner beneath the stars.
The next morning, explore stunning Chiew Larn Lake by kayak and visit ‘Little Ha Long Bay’. After a morning spent paddling through grottoes and round soaring limestone karsts, pause for lunch in a scenic spot.
In the afternoon, go in search of Prakarang coral cave, enjoying an exciting jungle trek to the emerald lagoon awaiting you.
As the sun sets, head back to the resort for dinner. Before bed, you will have a chance to launch your very own “Loy Kratong” a spiritual artefact representing releasing the old and welcoming new beginnings, at the Holy Land of the Lake.
A final morning waking amidst atmospheric mists and breakfasting on the lake signals the next stage in your adventure. A longtail boat will transfer you to the pier, where you will continue on to Zeavola Resort on Kho Phi Phi. The eco-luxe resort’s own private boat shall be waiting to meet you at Koh Yao Noi.
Zeavola Resort is set on an island paradise and offers guests an array of activities and peaceful relaxation alike. If old enough, children will be safe to explore the resort independently, whilst parents can rest assured that they’ll get plenty of well-deserved pampering.
Children and children-at-heart will all love an excursion to none other than James Bond Island – known to locals by the rather less movie-star names Khao Phing Kan and Khao Tapoo. 007 aside, the islands are a veritable treasure trove, featuring prehistoric cave paintings, the floating fishing village of Koh Panyi (complete with a floating football pitch) and neighbour to the many interesting grottos and lagoons comprising Panak Island.
Today you have most of the day at the resort before taking the private boat back to Phuket. We’ll then drive the short journey to the airport for your flight home.
