This holiday starts in Bangkok with a locally guided tour, where you will take advantage of the unrivalled local knowledge of your Wayfairer guide. You will then travel to Kanchanaburi where you will enjoy some unique accommodations experiences and the beautiful natural surroundings of the River Kwai and Erawan National Park.

Continuing your journey, you will travel to Chiang Rai where you'll stay at a fantastic lodge right in the hill-tribes as well as local homestay before continuing to Chiang Mai. Here you will discover the distinctive culture of northern Thailand as well as enjoying a range of activities and the local hospitality. We’ll spend a night in another hill-tribe lodge of different style and trek around the local area.

Your penultimate stop is at Koh Sok, where you can explore the rainforest, spend a night on the lake and in the tree house before finally arriving at the beach.

Trip Itinerary

Days 1-2: Bangkok

Day 1 - Meet on Arrival & Transfer to Hotel

We will meet you on arrival at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) airport, where you will be greeted with a Wayfairer welcome sign, and then transfered together to your hotel for check-in.

Your guide will meet you at your hotel this evening to brief you about your tour and to recommend some great dining options.

Day 2 - Bangkok City Tour

Today, you will have a locally guided tour of Bangkok and travel like a local using a number of varied transport options to include klong (canal) boat, public bus, the Chao Phraya River public ferry and the elevated BTS or Skytrain.

Bangkok is gaining recognition for its art, culture, food, shopping, hospitality and affordability. The city combines some of Asia’s oldest and most elaborately adorned temples with modern shopping malls and skyscrapers – a city that packs in so many sights and attractions you won’t know where to begin. However, your friendly and knowledgeable local guide will give you a helping hand and introduce you to some of Bangkok’s most famous sights - including the impressive Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Po.

On the way back to the hotel we go to a temple called Wat Hualampong where your guide will show you how Thai’s can make merit. At this temple you can make a donation to buy a coffin for someone who has died but unable to afford their own burial.

Days 3-4: Chiang Rai

This morning you will check out your accommodation and transfer to the airport for your flight to Chiang Rai.

Upon your arrival at the lodge about 2 pm, you will be served herbal juice. After a brief rest, we will start trekking along a nature trail (3 - 4 hours) through evergreen mountains. En route you will visit a waterfall and a Hmong village. Then return to the lodge by a local truck. Enjoy a sumptuous dinner and watch traditional Hmong and Lahu performances.

Day 4 - Day Trekking Through Hill-tribes

After breakfast start a full day trek on the trail crossing forested mountains. Learn with our experienced local guide about jungle food. Picnic lunch in the forest.

 

Day 5: Chiang Mai

After breakfast today you will have the opportunity to watch a presentation about the Hmong and Lahu tribes, the Golden triangle area and the giant cat fish (locally known as Pla Buek) – the world’s biggest fresh water fish found in the Mekong River. Learn about activities that affect the Mekong River and people whose lives depend on the river.

You’ll then get picked up by your Wayfairer driver and guide and head for your visit around Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle. Following on from that you will head to Chiang Mai and settle in to your accommodation.

This evening you can head out for a traditional Kantoke dinner, a local gem where you’ll be served the best Thai cuisine has to offer.

Day 6: Mae Kampong

After breakfast we visit the white temple of Wat Rhong Khun – this is a spectacular temple like no other and is perfect for the kids with its mystical theme.

This afternoon we then drive to the Kok River where we board a longtail boat and journey along the river towards Ta Thon. The trip along the Kok River allows us time to enjoy the surroundings before disembarking at Thaton. We then drive for an hour and a half into the northern hill region around Mae Kampong. The district is perfect for meeting these colourful hill tribe people who can give you an insight into their unique lifestyle and customs. We have organised a homestay this evening giving you an incredible opportunity to live with a local family and learn some of their customs. You’ll also of course have an opportunity to try some home cooked food!

Days 7-9: Chiang Mai

This morning enjoy a local breakfast and say goodbye to your host family before transfering to Chiang Mai via car.

In the evening we will take you out for a traditional Kantoke dinner, a local gem where you’ll be served the best Thai cuisine has to offer.

Day 8 - Cookery Class & Tour of Chiang Mai

This morning has an early starts to head to the base of Chiang Mai Hill to watch the monks descending into the city as the sun rises to collect their alms for the day. Your guide will explain the alms-giving tradition, and help you make offerings to the young monks as they filed down the hill.

If there is time you can continue on up the mountain to Wat Prah That Doi Suthep, before starting your tour of Chiang Mai.

You will then head back into the city for a tour of the old town on a tricycle. You’ll have some free time this afternoon before your guide takes you around the famous Chiang Mai night market tonight.

Day 9 - Elephant Nature Park

This morning visit the Elephant Nature Camp for their full day adventure. A fantastic experience and a great chance to get hands on with these majestic animals at a park which truly cares for the animals.

Days 10-11: Hmong

This morning head to a local farm outside Chiang Mai. You will start by collecting the ingredients before diving to yourThai cookery lesson, finishing with your own cooked lunch.

This afternoon you will head into the hill-tribe region outside of Chiang Mai, taking in incredible views before arriving at Hmong Lodge. This evening enjoy a wonderful buffet dinner and a show of Hmong sing and dance performed by local villagers.

Day 11 - Explore the Hill-tribe Region

Today take a full interactive tour around the local hill-tribes, seeing where the elephants are used by locals for work and not for tourism, small familly owned shops and communities going about their daily lives.

Day 12: Surat Thani

This morning you will transfer back to Chiang Mai to catch your onwards flight, stopping en route to visit the famous Doi Suthep temple where you can take some fantastic photos with the impressive view over Chiang Mai, and learn more about the site itself.

Upon arrival in Surat Thani you will be met by a Wayfairer representative and transferred to you accommodation.

Day 13: Khao Sok

Today you have a range of full day tours to choose from to really get the most of your Khao Sok experience. Options include canoe tours, full day rafting, trek and cave adventures, elephant treks and river tubing. 

Days 14-18: Phuket

This morning we check out of our accommodation at Khao Sok and take a private vehicle to your hotel on Phuket. Here we settle in for our final nights on the beach.

Day 15 - Hong cruise by Starlight

Spend an incredible day island hopping along the coast, finishing with an amazing kyak under the starlight where you can set free your Loi Kratong (lantern). 

Day 16 - Free day in Phuket

Spend the final days of your holiday relaxing on the beach, reflecting on your experiences or partaking in the activities put on by the hotel.

 

Day 17 - Free day in Phuket

Day 18 - Free day in Phuket
