Dreamy white sands, delectable dining and idyllic island living

Lying off the east coast in the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Samui is a a jungle-cloaked gem encircled by palm-fringed stretches of pristine shores and balmy crystal waters.

The country's second largest island, Koh Samui is renowned for it's lavish retreats, exclusive spas and world-class seaside dining. Here, you come to relax and rejuvenate.

The blissful white sandy beaches are perfect for soaking up the sun and the dazzling turquoise waters offer swimming, snorkelling and diving.

Choosing your perfect beach can be an overwhelming task. Start with Chaweng Beach, the busiest yet one of the most beautiful beaches. Lounge on a sunbed with a cocktail or refreshing coconut and enjoy a dip in the sparkling sea.

For those looking for a more laidback spot, Lamai Beach offers a quiet stretch of soft sand and deeper waters which are great for swimming. Families should head to Lipa Noi Beach, as the clear, shallow waters and powdery white sands are great for kids.

You can even head offshore for breathtaking snorkelling and diving in the surrounding islands. A day trip to Angthong National Marine Park is a magical adventure into one of Thailand's most unspoiled and enchanting corners.

Those who venture into the jungle of Koh Samui will discover picturesque waterfalls. Namuang Waterfall has two beautiful spots where you can enjoy a swim amongst the breathtaking scenery.

Explore the numerous temples strewn around the island. See the glimmering, 12 metre Big Buddha statue of the iconic Wat Phra Yai. Visit Wat Plai Laem, a beautiful temple surrounded by a lake and home to a giant 18-arm statue of Guanyin.

See an authentic side of Koh Samui with a trip to Bophut, a peaceful fishing village where you'll find traditional wooden homes from the 19th century.

Indulge in the island's incredible cuisine, from markets and roadside shacks serving up mouthwatering Thai dishes, to romantic sunset dinners on the beach.

There are plenty of elegant fine dining restaurants serving the freshest seafood and relaxed beach bars mixing up delicious cocktails.

Be sure to add some luxurious pampering to your Koh Samui holiday, with a trip to one of the island's world-class spas and wellness retreats. Treat yourself to a blissful massage or go beyond with yoga, tai chi and herbal treatments.

Best times to visit Koh Samui

Koh Samui boasts gorgeous sunshine for the most of the year. The monsoon season is short, with heavy rains occurring from October to mid-December. These months see the smallest crowds, however the rains bring poor snorkelling and diving conditions, and Angthong National Marine Park is closed from November to early December.

Late December to April brings fantastic weather with hot sunny days and little rain, while May to September still has plenty of sun but also brief afternoon showers. April and May are the hottest months and visitors in April will get to see Songkran, the amazing water festival. The peak seasons for tourists run from late December to January and from June to August, so avoid these months for a quieter holiday.
