Couples, Families & Honeymoons
Fort Bazaar sits in a heritage building in Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site on Sri Lanka’s southern coast.
The 17th century building, derelict since the 1950’s, was painstakingly renovated over a period of nine years and transformed into a beautiful, boutique hotel which opened in January 2016.
This luxurious hotel has a modern, chic and laid-back ambience, and inspired by Galle Fort’s Moorish history it has a distinctly Middle Eastern vibe with Moroccan-style rugs and cushions, mosaic tiles and pendant lamps.
The hotel is built around a central courtyard which is very much the hub of Fort Bazaar, and the alfresco courtyard is a lovely place to enjoy afternoon tea or an evening cocktail.
The hotel’s 15 stylish ‘Bazaar’ and ‘Banyan’ rooms open onto the picturesque courtyard, whilst the three spacious ‘Upper Floor Suites’ have balconies with views over the fort’s red-tiled rooftops.
At the entrance of the hotel is Fort Bazaar’s acclaimed restaurant, Church Street Social, which serves delicious Sri Lankan cuisine with Arabic, Moroccan and Turkish influences.
The hotel offers guests the opportunity to join a cookery class where you can learn how to cook traditional dishes one-on-one with an expert chef.
Fort Bazaar is ideally located for visiting Galle Fort’s historic sites and attractions, as well as Galle’s international test cricket ground and the beautiful tropical beaches.
Fort Bazaar has 15 luxuriously appointed Bazaar & Banyan rooms which overlook the hotel’s central courtyard, and three spacious Upper Floor Suites which have private balconies offering fantastic views of bustling Church Street, historic Galle Fort and the Indian Ocean. Families can either opt for interconnecting Banyan or Bazaar rooms or the Upper Family Suite. All rooms and suites have air-conditioning and a fan, a fridge stocked with complementary soft drinks, a Nespresso coffee machine and tea-making facilities.
Rates at Fort Bazaar include á la carte breakfast where you can choose from a selection of pastries and breads, fresh fruit, yoghurt, eggs, and Hoppers (traditional Sri Lankan pancakes made from fermented rice flour and coconut milk), afternoon tea where you can help yourself to an array of Ceylonese teas and freshly made cakes and scones, and an early evening ‘mocktail’. In the evening you can dine at the hotel’s restaurant, the acclaimed Church Street Social.
Fort Bazaar has 18 stylish rooms and suites, all with en-suite bathrooms, a gourmet restaurant and lively bar, a library, a 10-seater cinema, a luxury spa, and a 15m swimming pool. There’s free WiFi throughout the hotel.
Church Street Social is Fort Bazaar’s fantastic restaurant, serving everything from cheese and ham sandwiches with a contemporary twist, to modern versions of Sri Lanka’s traditional curries and exceptional Middle Eastern food.
Fort Bazaar is part of the Teardrop hotel group. The group is committed to helping and sustaining their local communities through their CARE (Creating A Rewarding Experience) charitable foundation. CARE has helped the communities in the areas surrounding their hotels in a number of ways, including: providing food, medicine, reading glasses and stationery to low income households, helping to repair the roof of a temple, providing equipment for a playground at a primary school and sponsoring three disabled children through a special needs school (Volunteers to Assist Children with Disabilities Limited).
