The lodge is within walking distance from Urquillos, a small and traditional settlement home to a lively and proud community that Explora works alongside. It is entirely immersed in the surroundings, there are vestigial Inca remains on site and neighbouring the lodge is an ancient corn plantation that still operates today. Watch the Andean communities thrive from the large windows and adopt the similarly slow pace of life.
Whilst providing outstanding adventures of the Sacred Valley is forefronted in Explora’s work, coming back to a comfortable stay is just as important. The lodge feels Scandinavian in design, with warm wooden panels and vaulted ceilings, the modern interior is airy and light, and beds are absolutely vast. Enjoy the spa in the historical, and divine looking Pumacahua Bathhouse - a 17th century colonial building beautifully restored. Unwind properly after a strenuous day hiking.

The Property
The property is an architectural marvel, combining modern with traditional aspects the owners of Explora aimed to immerse this lodge completely into the valley. There are 44 standard rooms, all overlooking the Vilcabamba mountain range and the ancient corn plantation that it neighbours. Additionally there are 6 larger suites. All rooms feature outstanding views, ginormous and comfortable beds, and jetted bathtubs with local infusions. WiFi only operates in common areas, a nice touch to get you up and out. There is a library collection and a bar.
Facilities
The Pumacahua Bath House (the spa) is located in the cornfields within a 17th century beautifully arched building. Explora Valle Sagrado also features a heated swimming pool, indulgent spa treatments on offer and saunas. The beautifully restored space that hosts this boasts incredible views of the valley. Food is served in the restaurant throughout and included in your stay, and snacks and picnic lunches are provided on treks.
Dining
Whilst the views, treks and hospitality is outstanding here, so is the food. The menu at Explora Valle Sagrado was curated and designed by Peru’s very own Vergilio Martínez, multi-michelin star and world renowned gastronomic artist. The cuisine highlights the sheer diversity of Peru’s own products, ingredients and traditions, amounting to a colourful and incredibly tasty array of dishes.
