Set in Nairobi national park this warm, homestead offers a unique safari experience in the city.
Owner run this beautiful old ranch has been converted into a boutique lodge that just oozes charm and is well worth a stay for those travelling in Kenya.
The perfect boutique lodge to explore Nairobi National Park from
Situated atop the ridge of Mbagathi River, which is the border for Nairobi National Park here you can enjoy the home comforts of the lodge as well as the beautiful scenery and lovely wildlife all in close proximity to the highlights of Nairobi – visit the Giraffe centre, Sheldrick Elephant orphanage or Kitingela Glass studio to just name a few!
Bought to life by the lovely Australian owners, you’ll enjoy warmth of a family atmosphere and the superb ‘paddock to plates’ dining experience fresh from the 20-acre working farm out back! Cosy up to the fire in the colder months and enjoy great views across the park as you sit outside by the pool for lunch in the warmer days.
Ololo is a great idea to extend your trip, make your stay in Nairobi part of the holiday, enjoying the wonderful wildlife of the national park and the sites of the city.
Unfortunately, the international airport flight path does cross over the lodge, so for those lighter sleepers it may not be the best choice. However, that aside it’s a beautiful location with, delightful staff, a great sustainable lodge with good wildlife viewing and definitely worth a couple of nights stay in any itinerary.
The Lodge
Ololo Safari Lodge is an eclectic mix of different styles for your room choice. Due to the history of the property each room has been converted from the original purpose creating something a little different for each person’s budget and style.
There are some brilliant family options, with the Stable Cottage offering three bedrooms and fully equipped kitchenette and private veranda and living room – to the new Family Wing with a large double room and open plan triple.
The Terrace room offers true opulence, with open fireplace and private terrace it’s a great option for those looking for plush comfort. The Tower room is situated above this – a more modern finish to this room creates a light and airy feel, which match the fantastic views across the Ngong hills – which can be enjoyed from your private roof terrace. Both are located within the original farmhouse.
Three tented cottages can kick you off to a great start for your safari experience, each privately located in the lush gardens you’ll love the feeling of being immersed in nature. These are all very spacious and equipped with comfortable furnishings.
The seven Stable rooms are the properties smallest on offer, making a cosy and very comfortable room option. All with en-suite facilities and built in the old stable block these offer lots of charm and are a great option for those shorter stays.
Facilities
A lovely little pool and outside patio offers views across the river into the park, or cosy up in the communal library. Game drives into the national park are included in customised safari vehicles with professional guides to give you an introduction to this unique city safari park!
Dining
All the scrumptious food is freshly prepared the ‘paddock to plate’ idea with as many ingredients right from the on-site farm. Meals are all included and mainly served outside in one of the many great dining spots on the property or in the cosy dining area.
How a stay at this lodge makes your trip more responsible
Being a converted farmstead Ololo is perfectly set up to be a fantastic model for sustainable tourism. All of what will appear on your plate is sourced directly from the lovely farm out back which you can visit whilst staying here! The farm is completely sustainable using composting techniques and water recycling to ensure no loss.
Ololo also supports St John’s School in Kibera slum, Nairobi striving to break the circle of poverty through education.
