Mondoro, meaning lion in the Goba language, honours a mythical white lion that used to prowl nearby. This very special property borders the Lower Zambezi river and is situated in a grove of acacia and winterthorn trees, making your stay that much more enjoyable as it is the perfect camp to experience walking safaris, game drives and water activities.
You will have the chance to experience unimaginable wildlife encounters during your stay such as big cat sightings and so much more – some of the best to be seen in Africa. This enchanting property has wildlife roaming not too far from the camp itself, with elephants and buffalo a popular sighting and a plethora of hippos dancing in the river nearby. You will find that the wildlife is ever present as are the hosts, guides and staff who will do their utmost to make your stay as memorable as ever.

At Wayfairer we aim to work with properties that share our values and Old Mondoro camp is exactly the kind of property we like to work with. The owner of the camp, Grant Cumings, is a founding member and Trustee of Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ) which is a non-profit organisation committed to the protection of the wildlife and habitat of the Lower Zambezi National Park and the surrounding Chiawa Game Management Area. Chiawa has also raised funds and designed a Safari Guide Training course available at subsidised rates for all Lower Zambezi trainee guides. This is only a couple of things that the owners partake in to give back to the community and offer eco friendly sustainable tourism.
