Mondoro, meaning lion in the Goba language, honours a mythical white lion that used to prowl nearby. This very special property borders the Lower Zambezi river and is situated in a grove of acacia and winterthorn trees, making your stay that much more enjoyable as it is the perfect camp to experience walking safaris, game drives and water activities.
You will have the chance to experience unimaginable wildlife encounters during your stay such as big cat sightings and so much more – some of the best to be seen in Africa. This enchanting property has wildlife roaming not too far from the camp itself, with elephants and buffalo a popular sighting and a plethora of hippos dancing in the river nearby. You will find that the wildlife is ever present as are the hosts, guides and staff who will do their utmost to make your stay as memorable as ever.
There is only room for 8 guests at Old Mondoro Camp allowing you to really get back to nature with peace and tranquillity all around you. The camp has 4 screened-in reed chalets with canvas roofs equipped with comfortable beds, lanterns and some rustic furniture. Perfect for Honeymoons, couples or families with teenage children, this is one not to be missed as you will not be disappointed.

The camp
Accommodation at The Old Mondoro camp definitely takes you back to the real bush experience with 4 chalets made of reed and stone and 1 en suite two-bedroom cottage with canvas roofs. Each chalet has a King bed with Egyptian cotton bedding. Each chalet overlooks out onto the Zambezi, has a stone splash bath and shower which is open to the outdoors (screened-in), allowing you to soak in the stunning views. The tents have flush loos and twin sinks. The water is solar heated.
You can also enjoy the views on your own shaded private deck that comes equipped with a day bed, perfect for reading that book or catching an afternoon ‘siesta.’ The facilities are Old Mondoro are simple, but comfortable. In terms of main areas, the camp offers an open lounge and dining are with all round views of the Zambezi, an outdoor boma area and a riverside spot where you can enjoy your breakfasts in the morning. The staff at Old Mondoro will accommodate all diet requirements.
Facilities
The camp has 4 safari rooms, offers a range of different activities such as day
and night game drives, fishing, walking safaris etc. The camp does not have aircon.
Dining
Meals are generally served around a single table in a traditional safari camp style.
The camp also offers bush meals as well as sundowners from time to time. Special diets such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, kosher etc can be accommodated with prior arrangement.

The owner of the camp, Grant Cumings, is a founding member and Trustee of Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ) which is a non-profit organisation committed to the protection of the wildlife and habitat of the Lower Zambezi National Park and the surrounding Chiawa Game Management Area. Chiawa has also raised funds and designed a Safari Guide Training course available at subsidised rates for all Lower Zambezi trainee guides. This is only a couple of things that the owners partake in to give back to the community and offer eco friendly sustainable tourism.
