Villa Margherita - Namibia's colonial, boutique hotel

Cost Per Night
Perfect For

Families & Couples

Located right in the heart of bustling Swakopmund, Villa Margherita is a beautiful old colonial house converted into a boutique hotel.

As the name suggests, Villa Margherita has a Mediterranean vibe to it, with a bright yellow exterior and an interior courtyard with the option to dine outside.

Villa Margherita is two separate buildings and all of the ten rooms are decorated with local artwork and have a unique design. Some rooms have large seating areas, others four-poster beds, and the ‘Romeo & Juliet’ room has a balcony overlooking the garden and city. The Nest is a family room with a double and a twin bedroom, separated by a spacious lounge area.

While Villa Margherita is a charming guest house to spend a night or two, it is also the ideal place to take a break from a self-drive holiday. Villa Margherita has private parking available, and the whole town of Swakopmund is within walking distance - including the beach.

The staff at Villa Margherita are friendly and can assist with tour bookings to see the cape seals from Walvis Bay or take advantage or their in-house masseuse for a post-driving massage. Villa Margherita is a beloved rest stop for many travellers in Namibia.

The property

Each of the ten rooms in Villa Margherita are unique, making the guesthouse feel more like a home than a hotel. The rooms have brightly coloured walls, local artwork and different layouts, with each having some sort of sitting area. The rooms either have double beds or twins, and there is a family room with both that can fit up to sit people. The rooms are private and quiet, and all feature wifi, flat screen TVs, hairdryers and ensuite bathrooms with hot showers.

Villa Margherita has an excellent location in Swakopmund and has an onsite restaurant with excellent organic food. Many travellers come from other hotels to indulge in the food at Villa Margherita, and the owners have also sourced a great selection of wines from the region. There are two dining rooms in the property, and also a self-catering kitchen, for those who wish to cook themselves. There is a cosy lounge area for guests complete with a fireplace for cold winter evenings.

Facilities

An in-house massage service is available for travellers tired after treks and long drives.

Dining

An on-site organic bistro with two separate dining rooms, as well as a well-stocked bar.

Why Wayfairer

Villa Margherita feels more like a family home than a hotel and the owners genuinely care about their guests and the local community. The villa was originally constructed around 1910 and has been restored and refurbished by the owners in 2008 but has kept the history in the building. The friendly, local staff can help book tours and they have sourced the best, least commercial tours that focus on conservation of local habitats and communities, such as kayaking with seals or a day trip to Sandwich Harbour.
