Cost Per Night
Perfect For

Families & Couples

Strategically built in the secluded wilderness of the Okonjima Nature Reserve, Okonjima Plains Camp is family-friendly, luxury lodge and home to the AfriCat Foundation.

Okonjima Plains Camp was once a cattle farm now decided to sell the cattle and focus on preserving Namibia’s wildlife and grassy plains, establishing the AfriCat foundation and transforming the land into a reserve.

The Plains camp is the most popular accommodation on the reserve, with 14 standard rooms, 10 spacious rooms with views, and six garden rooms.

The rooms are built around one of the farms old barns, which today houses the dining area, colourful lounge, and an outdoor swimming pool, all with views over the grass plains.

Okonjima Plains Camp is very close to the airstrip, so ideal for those short on time. The larger ‘view’ rooms, and the main barn have incredible sunsets every evening over the reserve as the sun sets behind the Omboroko Mountains in the distance.

During the day, there are lots of activities on offer, from tracking cheetahs on foot, working with their rescued animals on their rehabilitation projects or take a sunset drive to catch a glimpse of the elusive leopard.

Okonjima Plains Camp is a great accommodation option between Windhoek and Etosha National Park and offers a chance to glimpse many of Africa’s Wildcats.

The camp

There are three different room types at Okonjima Plains Camp; standard, view and garden rooms. The View rooms offer the best vistas over the grassy plains and the rooms are spacious inside with double beds, twin basins and a large shower. They have large verandas with daybeds and loungers. Two of these rooms can be combined to make a family suite. The standard rooms have equally amazing views over the reserve, but they are smaller in size than the view rooms. Their verandahs are also smaller in size and feature directors chairs for watching the sunset in.

The garden rooms are located in an enclosed area and are surrounded by a lush, green garden. The rooms have ensuite bathrooms and double beds, and outside the rooms is an area for campfires. The garden rooms are close to the main lodge but the Barn is a longer walk away from the garden rooms. Okonjima Plains Camp is family friendly and wheelchair accessible, and there is wifi and undercover parking available.
