Honeymooners, Couples & Families
Dead Valley Lodge is the newest lodge in the area having opened at the beginning of July 2019.
It is located just inside the Namib-Naukluft National Park, making it only the second lodge to be inside the park boundaries.
A stop on most people’s adventure to Namibia, this area is becoming increasingly popular. The outstanding benefit from Dead Valley Lodge is that you can access the national park an hour before sunrise and an hour after sunset, a must for those keen on photography or keen to avoid the crowds as much as possible.
If this wasn’t enough each of the 20 individual, tented chalets offer panoramic views of the impressive desert scenery. The chalets are rustic and earthy in design to blend in with the surrounding landscape, each with a private deck, twin or double beds and even air-conditioning.
The main activity from the lodge is visiting the iconic sights of the Namib Desert, such as Dune 45, Big Daddy, Big Mamma and the salt and clay pans of Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. The lodge runs guided drives in the morning and the afternoon to experience these, along with visits to Sesriem Canyon. It is also well-placed for hot-air balloon flights, which take to the air not far from the lodge.
The 20 chalets are of a traditional tented design with a contemporary feel. We love the muted tones, the thick, cosy rugs and the use of heavy wooden furniture pieces that mirror the skeletal, camel thorn trees that the region is so famous for. Both twin and double beds can be found in the rooms making this lodge great for honeymooners, couples and families alike. Although the lodge isn’t fenced there is little dangerous wildlife around, so moving between rooms and the main area isn’t a problem. The lodge accepts children above the age of 6 and no doubt that everyone will enjoy a refreshing dip in the swimming pool that overlooks Elim Dune.
The main area is where the communal lounge and dining area can be found and again this is dominated by use the use of organic materials that correspond to the surrounding natural environment. Tables are made from heavy wooden stumps, sumptuous soft brown sofas are perfect for relaxing with a book and leathers adorn the sandy-coloured floor. Given the open sides to the main area the line between the indoors and outdoors, blurs pleasingly.
Include air-conditioning, an open-air swimming pool, bar, comfortable lounge, guided game drives as well as easy self-drive access.
Delicious Namibian cuisine is served at individual tables in the open sided main area, so you won’t miss any of the local wildlife wandering past, even while eating breakfast.
The operator behind Dead Valley Lodge specialises in Public Private Partnerships and Joint Ventures within the Namibian Tourism Sector. Dead Valley Lodge has been created as a cooperative agreement between the public and the private sector, enabling the government to use the expertise and capital of the private sector to drive development and therefore stimulating the economy and creating employment.
