Water-loving lechwe can be seen splashing through the reeds, and hippos and crocodiles are common in the waterways, whilst rare sable antelopes and elusive leopards can be spotted in the dry savannah. Herds of elephants and Cape buffalos are also seen here, as well as resident prides of lions and packs of wild dogs, plus giraffes, impalas, kudus and zebras are common. An incredible variety of bird species can be spotted all year round.

Guests at Vumbura Plains can experience fantastic wildlife viewing on morning and afternoon game drives, and as this is a private reserve, there’s also the possibility of night drives to spot nocturnal creatures.

Guided nature walks with skilled rangers, and bird walks with expert guides are also offered, as well as motorboat and ‘mokoro’ excursions on the flooded plains of the Okavango Delta, catch-and-release fishing trips, and thrilling hot air balloon safaris, which offer the opportunity to experience the Okavango Delta from an entirely different perspective (balloon safaris are available from April to mid-October - additional costs apply).

If you're looking for a luxurious Okavango Delta safari experience in a wilderness setting with the option of both land and water-based activities, then Vumbura Camp is a perfect choice.

The Camp

Vumbura Plains comprises of two separate luxurious camps - Vumbura Plains North and Vumbura Plains South. The two separate camps each offer seven luxurious, thatched-roof tents, which are raised off the ground on wooden decks and connected by walkways.

The extremely spacious and sophisticated tents are made from canvas, glass and wood and have a contemporary design. They feature huge beds set on a raised platform and a sunken lounge area which has floor-to-ceiling glass panels on three sides providing spectacular views across the Okavango Delta floodplains. All tents are en-suite with flush toilets, ceramic sinks, and indoor and outdoor showers! Outside there’s a large wooden deck with a private plunge pool and sun-loungers, where you can relax and watch the herds of impala and zebra grazing on the plains!

Wooden walkways connect the tents with the camp’s main communal area, a huge deck which is open on all sides. Although the two camps are not identical, the central areas are very similar in style, and they each offer the same facilities. There’s a swimming pool, a lounge, a bar and dining area, and a firepit which is the perfect place to sit at night at gaze up at the stars!
