Discover the white sandy beaches of the Kenya South Coast
Kenya is renowned for being one of the best safari destinations in the world, but it also offers world-class luxury beach holidays. The pristine, palm fringed southern coastline is rimmed by the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, fostering a balmy, tropical climate. Situated around bustling Mombasa and southward, Diani and Msambweni Beaches are a blissful option for travellers craving relaxation after an exhilarating Kenya safari.
Diani is a charming 25km strip, made up of Tiwi Beach, Galu Beach, Chale Island, Funzi Island and Kinondo. This is your perfect choice if you seek a balance between relaxation and exhilaration. Recline at the pool-side of some of the best Kenya beach resorts, before strapping up for thrilling activities like diving and snorkelling amidst eye-catching coral reefs.
This isn’t just the time to dip your toes into Kenya’s twinkling southern waters, but rather the time to unite with Mother Nature. Awe-inspiring boat trips in Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park bring you up-close with dolphins, sea turtles and other marine life. Nearby, Shimba Hills National Reserve homes elephants, warthogs, baboons and giraffes, posing a beautiful contrast to the coast’s tropical beaches, where local fishermen meet buzzing travellers.
Even camels wander the charming beaches in and surrounding Mombasa, offering insight into the varied culture and biodiversity of East Africa on your engaging Kenya holiday.
When to go to the Kenya South Coast
January to early March brings warm, sunny weather with little rain and is the best time to visit Kenya if you want to visit its south coast. The rainy season runs from mid-March to late May with the coastline becoming very hot and wet, so we recommend avoiding the southern Kenya beaches during this time. The long dry season occurs from July to early October, which is a fantastic time for both a safari tour and a Kenya beach holiday. October to mid-March offers the best conditions for diving and you can expect great underwater visibility. There’s a chance you’ll see whale sharks from February to March, while Humpback whales migrate along this coast from the end of June to December.
