Built into an old Bushman’s rest area, tucked away beneath the granite boulders of the Matobo Hills – the unique Amalinda lodge is the perfect addition for any original itinerary to Zimbabwe. This is a comfortable, owner run lodge in this small park offering not only vehicle safaris but also a wealth of culture and experiences.

The granite domes and castle kopjes echo the essence of tranquillity and majesty of untamed Africa, where wildlife and birdlife species thrive in prolific numbers. Famous for its healthy population of endangered rhino, the area is one of the most sought-after destinations within Zimbabwe for walking with rhino.

Amalinda offers nine safari chalets, all built beautifully into the rocks giving every room its own individual feel. There are also three suites, each uniquely designed and set further apart making them ideal for honeymooners or families. Matobo not only offers a decent amount of wildlife for vehicle safaris – it’s famous for it’s amazing experience of tracking both black and white rhino!

If you want a break from wildlife Matobo offers cultural significance, visit the grave of the infamous Cecil Rhodes – an important figure in Zimbabwe’s history. This is also one of the world’s richest sources of San rock art found, journey back in time as you discover these amazing works. Get more adventurous with additional activities such as walking or biking or of course totally relax at the on-site spa!

The Lodge

Built into the granite boulders of the Matobo Hills Amalinda lodge offers nine thatched chalets and three suites. All creatively built to fit amongst neatly into the beautiful landscape you find yourself in. All chalets are en-suite and offer spacious rooms with large beds and a mix match of colonial furniture giving it a great charm. The three suites are individually named after historians, and all have their own style and being set away from the main lodge offer privacy – ideal for honeymooners!

The lodge’s main area offers sweeping views of the landscape below and the hills around you. Enjoy the lounge, with a well-stocked library! Or take a drink at the bar, better yet head down to the wine cellar to pick your selection before moving off to the fire to enjoy your bottle. The dining area is a communal set up with a large captains table and where all meals are served. Finally, the lovely swimming pool is the ideal location to relax in the heat of the day and take a dip before enjoying your lounger. If you need a little more pampering check out the on-site spa for a massage on manicure.

Facilities

The main area is cleverly built i to the granite boulders, enjoy the cooling pool, relax at the spa or grab a book from the library. Vehicle safaris are available; however, the walking safaris and rhino tracking is what this area is really known for!

Dining

You will enjoy communal dining in the main area for your stay here – private dining can be organised on request. Meals here are all to a good standard, simple yet satisfying and filling for each day.
