Families, Couples & Honeymooners
Translating as beautiful in Swahili, "Zuri” Zanzibar is a stunning eco-retreat with an authentic African feel.
This luxury resort opened in 2018 and it is constructed using sustainable materials, such as Tanzanian teak, eucalyptus and nyasi grass thatch, as such it blends in beautifully with the natural surroundings.
Its cluster of 55 bungalows, suites and villas are nestled among tropical gardens, resembling a traditional African village, and the stylish rooms feature African craftsmanship with wooden furniture made from old dhows (local fishing boats), handcrafted carved doors and beaded curtains made by local artisans.
Located in Kendwa Village, just over 50km from Stone Town and its international airport, Zuri Zanzibar has a prime location on Zanzibar’s northwest coast. The resort’s private beach is set within in a large lagoon and is unaffected by the tides meaning that guests can swim in the crystal clear, calm waters all day, and the gorgeous palm-fringed beach is west-facing making it one of the best places on the island to enjoy spectacular sunsets!
At this tranquil, tropical paradise there’s an emphasis on well-being and relaxation.
There are many activities to enjoy during your stay; enjoy a massage at the luxurious spa, take a private yoga class at sunrise or sunset, sunbathe on the white sandy beach with tall palm trees gently swaying above you, swim in the impressive 32 metre infinity pool whilst taking in the incredible views of the Indian Ocean, take a stroll through the lush gardens, or head to the private “pods” in the Spice Garden, which covers a quarter of Zuri Zanzibar’s land, to meditate or simply relax.
Zuri Zanzibar offers 46 individual bungalows, six suites and three ocean front luxury villas, all of which offer views of the tropical gardens or the Indian Ocean. The most exclusive and extravagant accommodation choices are the Two and Three-Bedroom Ocean Front Villas which have a semi-private beach with sunbeds, two or three separate bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, and a living room with a kitchen corner, and a private Jacuzzi. The latter even comes with a 12 metre infinity pool and a zen pond.
The resort has three restaurants – Upendo, Maisha and Bahari Grill & Bar – all of which are decorated in a chic African style and serve exquisite international cuisine with an African/Indian twist. Cocktails, aperitifs and refreshing drinks, including sugar cane cocktails, fruit daiquiris and smoothies can be enjoyed at Peponi Bar which offers a peaceful and relaxing ambiance, Maisha which is the poolside bar and the perfect place to enjoy the ocean views, and beachside at Bahari Grill & Bar where you can marvel at the spectacular sunsets! There’s also the Dhow Bar which is a private beach bar for guests staying in the deluxe suites and villas!
Facilities include a private beach, an infinity pool, an open-air gym, a spa, yoga lessons, dive and watersports centre, and spice gardens. WiFi is available throughout the resort.
The resort’s three restaurants serve a fusion of African, Indian, Middle Eastern and European cuisine. ‘Dining by Design’ offers the opportunity to enjoy a private cooking lesson or romantic candlelit dinner at a location of your choice in the resort.
Zuri Zanzibar places a strong emphasis on social and environmental responsibility. The resort uses water from its own well, and waste water is cleaned and recycled, so that it can be used for irrigation of the landscape in and around the resort. It also uses as many local products as possible, including bathroom products created by members of the local community.
In March 2019 Zuri Zanzibar was awarded the EarthCheck Sustainable Design Gold Certification which recognises that the resort created self-sufficient power sources and installed less energy-intensive technologies, such as the Evening Breeze air-conditioning which uses 75% less energy than conventional systems.
