Situated on the tranquil banks of the Zambezi River, Chundukwa River Lodge is just 36 kilometres upstream from the Victoria Falls.
You’ll be located within easy driving distance of the thundering falls and lively Livingstone, while staying off the grid in this little slice of heaven.
With only five stilted chalets and one family cottage, you’ll feel like you have this beautiful space all to yourself. The lodge is immersed in the stunning wilderness, with sweeping views over the river to Chundu Island and the Zambezi National Park.
The river is home to hippos, crocodiles and brilliant birdlife and the Chundukwa also has a stable yard just a five minute walk from the lodge.
You’ll adore the serene and private atmosphere and the comfortable chalets are the perfect place to relax. Chundukwa also welcomes families and groups in ‘Chundu Cottage, a spacious two-bedroom suite with a private deck, swimming pool and a personal team including a cook, waiter and housekeeper.
You can choose to relax or get active, with plenty of wonderful activities allowing you to explore the region.
You can take a dip in the pool, go on horseriding ventures in the teak forests along the river, sunset boat crusies, game drives, white water rafting, village walks and of course, trips to the mighty Victoria Falls and the bustling town of Livingstone.
The lodge has five reed-and-thatch chalets perched on stilts overlooking the Zambezi River. Nestled within the trees, you’ll enjoy a private space with comfortable amenities including four-poster beds, en-suite bathrooms, suspended mosquito nets and electric blankets for winter. Named after birds, the Bee-eater, Honeyguide & Francolin Chalets have twin or King beds and showers, while the Jacana & Kingfisher Chalets have both bathtubs and showers. The Jacana can be converted to sleep four while the Kingfisher is preferred by couples.
Children of ten years and older are welcome in the chalets, however the Chundu Cottage welcomes children of all ages. The cottage has two double rooms including an ensuite and an upstairs loft, a private deck and swimming pool, a large verandah and a dedicated team to prepare your meals, including a cook, waiter and housekeepers. The onsite restaurant serves delicious meals using fresh ingredients from the garden or neighbouring farms. You can choose to have a private meal within the lodge or in the beautiful bush and you’ll enjoy breakfast on the deck with stunning views over the Zambezi River. For a special touch, you can also request wake-up tea and coffee served in your room each morning.
The lodge offers a swimming pool, game drives, boat cruises, scenic flights, fishing trips, horse riding, bushwalking, birding and day trips to the Victoria Falls.
The onsite restaurant serves delicious meals all day, using organic ingredients from the garden or from surrounding farms. You can also enjoy a private meal within the Zambian bush.
Chundukwa River Lodge has been family owned and operated for over 50 years. The owners, Doug and Gail, built the original Chundukwa in 1992 and began to rebuild it in 2015. They aim to offer an authentic Zambian experience, immersing guests in the history, culture and soul of Zambia. Their stilted, reed-and-thatch chalets are constructed from natural materials and the open river facing design blends beautifully with the natural environment. The restaurant uses organic, home-grown produce from the garden and also supports the local community by sourcing fresh ingredients from surrounding farms.
