Rwakobo Rock is a family-run, eco-friendly lodge nestled on an outcrop at the boundary of Lake Mburo National Park in western Uganda. This peaceful and secluded lodge overlooks vast mountains and the Ankole ranchlands, and the spacious guest cottages offer stunning views of the surrounding wilderness from their private verandahs.
The property is situated just over 1km from the Nshara Gate of Lake Mburo National Park making it an excellent base for exploring the park.
You can enjoy morning and afternoon game drives where there is a chance to see a variety of wildlife including buffalos, lions, warthogs, giraffes, eland, zebra and impala, plus over 350 bird species.
There’s also an opportunity for night drives where you might be lucky and spot more elusive species such as leopards, hyena and porcupines.
You can also enjoy boat trips on Lake Mburo where you’re likely to see hippos and crocodiles, plus a variety of birdlife that inhabit the areas surrounding the lake.
The lodge also offers guided walking safaris, guided cycle trips, and cultural experiences where you can visit a local Bahima family.
After exploring the park and the surrounding area you can return to the lodge and take a dip in the swimming pool or simply relax in one of the hammocks, before enjoying a drink at the well-stocked bar and watching a spectacular African sunset as you reflect on your day.

The lodge
Accommodation at Rwakobo Rock comprises of offers eight spacious thatched cottages which are dotted around the hill taking advantage of rocky ledges and secluded corners. The cottages feature comfortable wooden beds, plus en-suite bathrooms which have flush toilets and solar heated showers. Each private cottage offers magnificent views of the surrounding landscape. There’s also an option to stay in the newly built Hornbill House. This beautiful thatched building has five en-suite rooms, all of which have a private verandah, and it is perfect for families and groups. For a more basic bush experience there’s a lazy camping safari tent option.
The restaurant at Rwakobo Rock serves delicious homemade food prepared by the head chef and team. The menu features a combination of Ugandan and Western dishes and fresh fruit, vegetables and meats which are sourced from the local area. From the restaurant and bar you can enjoy scenic views of Lake Mburo National Park and you might even spot wildlife such as zebra, warthog, impala and bushbuck in the waterhole below.
Facilities
The facilities at Rwakobo Lodge include a restaurant and bar, charging stations, WiFi and a swimming pool. For guests staying in the lazy camping tents, all camping gear and bedding is provided.
Dining
All meals and drinks (excluding certain spirits and wines) are included. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the main lodge and are either set menus or a buffet style dinner.
