Perfect For

Couples, Honeymooners, Families

Umlani Bushcamp is a lovely family owned and run eco bush camp set in the heart of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. Completely off the grid and offering a break away from some of the main tourist areas this camp is ideal for those looking to get lost in nature.

This bush camp accommodates just 16 guests, in traditional African reed and thatch huts, creating a great philosophy of simplistic luxury and 'getting back to nature'. Which is enhanced by the romance of operating without electricity. Enjoy the warm atmosphere of candlelight and oil lamps and open-air bush showers fuelled by wood fires.

Umlani offers an exciting, safe experience in Big Five territory. View lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino, in more than 10 000 hectares (24 000 acres) of traversing area. Timbavati is an unfenced reserve sharing borders with the legendary Kruger National Park, this allows animals to migrate through and offers fantastic wildlife viewing.

Experience the thrill of game drives in open Land Rovers, guided bush walks and tracking game on foot with highly experienced rangers and trackers. At Umlani you will enjoy an adventure of a lifetime in one of Africa's world-renowned wilderness reserves.

For a special stay don’t forget to ask about the adventurous sleep out deck, head out for an exciting night under the stars!

The Lodge

This idyllic eco camp consists of four double reed rondavels, all en-suite with great outdoor showers and chill areas outside. There is also four family reed rondavels, these have a double and two twin beds in a room, comfortable for families with younger children. These have the same facilities as the standard rondavel. Lastly there is the Eco Hut, this is built of sustainable thermal materials, keeping it cool when it’s hot and warm when it’s cold! Other than a couple additional luxuries it’s much the same as the double rondavels.

Take your afternoons off and chill by the pool or have some lunch on the deck – ideally situated overlooking a nearby waterhole which always has some action! You’ll enjoy communal dining with meals set in the traditional Boma area. There’s also a small gift shop available for Umlani souvenirs. About 1.5kms away is the beautiful treehouse sleep out deck – do ask you specialist for more details.

Facilities

Umlani is well known for its prolific wildlife viewing and high standard of guiding, both from jeeps, on foot or from the deck as you enjoy the watering hole! There’s an onsite gift shop and pool for those looking to take it easy.

Dining

Dining is a communal affair, often hosted on captains’ tables either in the boma, the dining room or out on the open riverbed! The food is authentic bush camp meals, hearty and leaving you full and happy.

Why Wayfairer

Umlani is incredibly committed to responsible tourism, being completely off grid ensures 100% solar power, with a back up generator only for emergencies. The staff are all from the local area where possible and with strong training regimes in place many learn and move on with fantastic skills!

All produce is locally sourced where possible or grown in the on-site organic garden. They have cut down on all waste products and continue to teach conservation awareness to both guests and the community to better preserve this amazing ecosystem.

All these are reasons we love Umlani and what it stands for, with tourism going hand in hand with conservation and community to better protect these outstanding areas.
