Sitting on its own peninsula along the shores of Lake Kivu, the charming Cormoran Lodge is nestled on a steep hill and offers incredible views of Lake Kivu. The lodge consists cabins are perched on stilts and the views of Lake Kivu are incredible, making Cormoran Lodge one of the most unique places to stay in Rwanda.

From the VIP cabin, which is more like a suite than a room, Nyiragongo Volcano’s lava crater can be seen glowing at night from across the Lake. Each cabin is its own separate building, offering complete peace and privacy. The rooms are simple, clean and stylish albeit a little rustic, but it’s the perfect location to really get a feel of lakeside life.

Cormoran Lodge has its own restaurant with panoramic views of the lake and nearby Kibuye town. The food is excellent and the restaurant, like all the cabins, is made entirely of wood and stone.

Guests can also explore the lake itself by taking the steep path down the hill to a private beach with sun loungers, and it’s easy to arrange a trip to Bat Island from Cormoran Lodge. For those looking for an authentic Lake Kivu experience, Cormoran Lodge is just that.

The lodge

Cormoran Lodge has only 7 cabins and so the property feels intimate and private. Choose from a double, twin or the larger VIP cabin, with all rooms featuring a television, WiFi, mini fridge and bathroom with a bath and shower. While there is no air-conditioning, there is usually a cool breeze from the lake and so most times of the year the rooms are cool. Each bed is covered with a mosquito net and the rooms are all made from wood and stone, offering a unique rustic feel.

As well as the cabins, there is a panoramic restaurant with a bar, and a playroom for darts, cards and board games. the lodge can also organise canoes, water skiing and boat rides for an extra fee. Alternatively, enjoy the shores of the lake and indulge in swimming and sunbathing at the pristine beaches nearby.

Facilities

The Cormoran Lodge is perfect for water sports lovers, as kite surfing, water skiing, kayaks and boat trips can be arranged from the lodges small jetty.

Dining

The restaurant has a panoramic view of Lake Kivu, and look out for the glowing red crater of the DRC’s Nyiragongo Volcano.
