Surrounded by pristine bushland, Lochmara Lodge has no road access, with guests arriving via the private Lochmara Bay on a 15 minute boat ride from Picton. You can also hike or cycle in through the Queen Charlotte Track.

Lochmara Lodge is a secluded property with no road access and no televisions, but it is packed with exceptional onsite facilities. Relax in the luxurious Bath House and Massage Suite, complete with romantic twin baths overlooking the bay, or work your way through the stack of complementary activities, including kayaking, paddleboarding and a private beach. Choose from 14 rooms, with a selection of units and chalets to suit couples and family holidays. The spacious family units are comfortably furnished and equipped with kitchenettes, with courtyard access and bay views. The romantic chalets are perfect for couples, with balconies opening onto stunning views of the bay and an outdoor setting that’s ideal for soaking up the morning sun.
The onsite cafe and restaurant is focused on sustainability, with a menu featuring local, organic and seasonal produce, regional Marlborough wines and boutique beers. You’ll enjoy freshly baked treats every morning, fresh fruit from the orchard and herbs from the garden, and free range eggs from the happy Lochmara chickens. In summer you can sit out on the deck and enjoy the glistening bay views, while in winter you can rug up by the cosy log fire.
The retreat offers something for everyone with a spa, massage suite, jacuzzi, private beach, water sports, hiking, wildlife activities, art exhibitions and adventurous day trips around the region.
The cafe and restaurant at Lochmara Lodge offers a special taste of the Marlborough region, with the menu featuring local, homemade produce often pulled straight from the lodge’s own garden.
Locally owned and operated, Lochmara Lodge is an eco-friendly retreat dedicated to sustainability and wildlife conservation. For the past 12 years they have operated a Mainland Island predator control program and widespread habitat planting. They have a number of Wildlife Recovery programs in place, working with injured wildlife, Kakariki, Weka, and the Marlborough Green Gecko, as well as providing nesting boxes for the Blue Penguin and the Tree Weta. Their onsite cafe and restaurant features local produce, with many items on their menu coming from their own orchard and garden.
