A boutique, eco-hotel on the east coast of Mauritius, SALT of Palmar is cut from a different cloth to most of the resorts on the island.

Cost Per Night
Perfect For

Families, Couples & Honeymooners.

Just a few steps from the pristine white sands of Qautre Coco beach on the popular east coast of Mauritius, this bright, fun hotel is the ideal place to relax or even get involved with some local Mauritian traditional crafts.

Set at a very reasonable price point that will equally suit younger couples looking for a relaxing add-on to a safari as it will suit families looking for an standalone beach-break. Some of the rooms are inter-connecting or have sofa-beds to accommodate little ones.

Along with hard-to-leave luxury rooms in the hotel’s signature Moroccan-inspired style (the influence of French artist Camille Walala) SALT of Palmar has many facilities and activities to keep you entertained and invirogated during your stay. For example, explore local villages and the bustling Flacq market on electric bikes, or perhaps a guided tour, one evening, of Port Louis’s evolving art scene with a local resident.

As you might hope from the name of the hotel there are experiences focused on salt too, from visiting the Tamarin salt pans and learning how it is harvested to feeling its restorative properties in the SALT Equilibrium spa which has the island’s first salt therapy room and a chance to sample a range of massages and scrubs.

A wonderful, unique initiative at SALT of Palmar is its ‘skill swap’ enterprise than encourages local and guests to share their knowledge of a skill, perhaps you can learn basket weaving, fishing or some Mauritius cooking.

The hotel

The 59 rooms all have balconies and are set across three storeys. The rooms are very well thought out and a good size, we love the art-deco, crisp design and the high-quality fixtures and fittings.

The king-sized Carpe Diem bed is hard to miss in the centre of the room, these beds are handmade and were developed with physios to ensure you get the best sleep possible. The 100% organic cotton bedding will also help in this regard. You will find free WiFI throughout the hotel, the rooms also have an iPod dock, a Roberts radio, air-conditioning, handmade beach bags and tea and coffee making kit. Upgrading to one of the ‘pool plus’ rooms also gets you a Dyson hairdryer and resident iPad.

The locations of the room vary, including garden view, poolside, bang on the beach (which face east for sunrise), best on the beach and the best of the bunch- pool plus.

SALT of Palmar is proud to be a ‘Vegan Welcome Resort’ in which all of the dining options serve vegan-friendly meals. There is the main à la carte restaurant, a bakery serving breads, pastries and fresh coffee, the roof top bar, beach bar and SALT raw which serves plant-based smoothies and other health food inventions.

There are various eating and drinking options at the SALT of Palmar, which is a vegan-friendly resort. Sample artisanal breads and pastries with seasonal marmalade at The Bakery, an à la carte menu at the main restaurant and craft beers from the pool bar, for example.

Why Wayfairer

SALT of Palmar is the first eco-friendly hotel in Mauritius and during your stay you will see that everything has been carefully considered, from the bathrobes which are made from coffee bean waste to the local charitable partnerships of which the hotels has won awards for. Much of the produce served is grown on site or sourced locally and single-use plastics are banned, so you will find reusable bottles in your rooms and straws made from paper or bamboo for example.
