Muang La Lodge - A charming lodge in Northen Laos

Cost Per Night
Perfect For

Families & Couples

Located in Muang La and lying at a crossroads between Burma, China, Thailand and Vietnam, Muang La Lodge is a modern resort perched beside a sparkly river in the green hills of northern Laos. Situated in a truly remote corner of Laos, the resort offers an exceptionally high level of comfort and service.

Surrounded by verdant gardens, the 10 rooms in the resort are housed in small, wooden traditionally built villas and are furnished with 1930's style craft work by the local craftsmen of Oudom Xay. With a focus on sustainability, Muang La Lodge supports the local community and ethnic tribes of the region.

Surrounded by a dense jungle, green hills, and colourful hill-tribe communities, this stylish retreat offers a luxurious escape in one of Southeast Asia’s least explored locations.

We particularly recommend a visit to the spa, which is home to a public bath using water from a centuries old thermal spring. In addition, there are thermal spring hot tubs, a herbal sauna, and different spa treatments available throughout your stay.

The lodge is committed to respecting tradition and culture, and offers guests opportunities to visit local ethnic minorities and the local village.

As well as this cultural activity, there is also plenty of sport based and exploration activity available through the lodge. Whatever you wish to get out of your stay, Muang La Lodge can accommodate for you.

The property

Muang La Lodge offers 10 traditionally built wooden villas which are named after local hill-tribe communities and are furnished with hill-tribe décor including locally woven textiles, lampshades, and traditional art.  The recently refurbished River View rooms each feature a spacious balcony with an expansive floor plan. With glorious six-meter-high ceilings and a large bathroom with double sinks and a huge bathtub, these rooms offer great value for family friendly holidays. Painted and sculpted original art designed by Lao artists are used throughout the resort to make the surroundings feel that little bit more special. All the fabrics are locally produced and a tribute to the colourful cultures of Laos and the ethnic communities of the region.

The resort’s rustic and intimate open-air restaurant is home to a large deck overlooking the river. Serving a fine fusion of beautifully presented traditional Lao and French dishes, everything is prepared using fresh produce which is grown on the fertile land around the lodge, with most grown in the lodge’s very own garden. Guests can enjoy unspoilt views while enjoying the cuisine, including dinner at La Sala, which is situated on a private island that is reached via a small suspension bridge across the river. Built on stilts, this beautiful, wooden pavilion offers wonderful views over the river and complete privacy to enjoy a romantic dinner.

Facilities

The lodge has many unique facilities, such as a thermal spring bath and hot tubs, wellbeing treatments, exploration activities, and a private island.

Dining

The open-air restaurant on the main site serves Lao and French dishes made with local ingredients. Guests can also eat at La Sala on the private island.

Why Wayfairer

From the start, Muang La Lodge invested in social development with initiatives to support the local community. Almost all of the workers who built the lodge are from the local villages and use locally sourced materials to build the resort. The lodge’s daily supplies come from local producers and their own organic garden, which is managed by Khamu village farmers. Additionally, the lodge partners with schools to teach children about hygiene and cleanliness.
