Ol Malo is the place where guests can experience pure Africa. This privately owned ranch and game sanctuary is situated on the northern edge of the Laikipia plateau, giving unrivalled access to the heartland of the African bush and the Samburu tribe.
This stunning and expansive 5000 acre property borders the Waso Nyiro River to the East and Africa’s savannah plains to the West. It is one of Kenya’s most pristine areas of conservation, and guests love being in the middle of it within the comfortable surroundings of stone cottages.
The lodge can be reached by Ol Malo airstrip from Nairobi or Nanyuki. This otherworldly and family friendly place has a reputation for exceeding guests’ expectations. Fly in a helicopter, sleep under the stars, or learn about Samburu life; at Ol Malo, the world is your oyster.
Guests can enjoy a wealth of outdoor activities during their stay. Helicopter rides are a highlight for many guests, while game drives are popular for first timers.
Other wonderfully guided activities, such as horse riding, camel walks, fishing, mountain biking, and ranch work are loved by adults and kids alike.
For a unique experience, guests can learn about Samburu survival skills, try Samburu beading, go on a mobile safari, or sleep under the stars, to name just a few of the activities on offer.
Ol Malo is the birthplace of the Samburu Trust, and guests are invited to explore the efforts of this vital programme which covers over one million acres of Samburuland.
Stay in one of Ol Malo's four stone and thatch private cottages, which boast private en-suites and verandas. Nestled into the cliffside, the cottages are extremely private and benefit from their own infinity pools. Thoughtfully designed with cedar post beds and large windows which frame Mount Kenya, every room is intimate and characterful. Families or groups can stay in the Ol Malo House, which can be booked exclusively, and accommodates up to 12 guests. Ol Malo House has a central sitting room, dining room, and six en-suite double bedrooms. With a large outdoor space with a BBQ area and an infinity pool overlooking the amazing vistas, Ol Malo House is a very special place.
The extensive ranch with livestock and gardens, allows guests to graze on fresh, locally grown food. Arrange a wake up tea or coffee, and fill your days with a hearty breakfast, lunch and dinner from a menu that celebrates the local flavours and customs. Kids love helping to milk the cows and camels and collecting eggs for the table. Before bedtime, enjoy listening to the staff’s fascinating stories of local wildlife, while enjoying tea and canapes.
Enjoy a wide range of outdoor adventure and ranch activities and relax in the infinity pool.
Ol Malo serves extensive breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus, using local produce and flavours.
Ol Malo is central to the Samburu Trust’s projects. The trust provides solutions for the water crisis affecting nomadic peoples, educates the local community about wildlife, and builds reservoirs. Additionally, Ol Malo makes advances in community health, tackles poaching, and helps with local school development.
