Perfect For

Couples & Families

In the centre of Quito’s Old Town, Casa Gangotena is a glorious historic mansion located on one of the most important squares in the city. Legend has it that the San Francisco Plaza was surrounded by pre-colonial palaces before the arrival of the Spanish in the 15th century and Casa Gangotena sits on the ruins of an ancient Inca temple.

In 1924, ten years after a disastrous fire, the Gangotena family rebuilt and renovated their stately home. Today, Art Nouveau and Art Deco elements from the original mansion shine through.

As you walk through the arched entrance to Casa Gangotena you will be greeted by the famously warm hospitality of the Ecuadorian highlands. A Les Clefs d’Or concierge and a plush reception room invites you to sink into plump sofas beside a grand original fireplace.

Despite its grand history and status as a Relais Chateaux property, Casa Gangotena is only a small property which is perfectly located for exploring the city, and appointed well for relaxing following a long journey.

Staying in Casa Gangotena is accompanied by an enjoyment of finer things in life. Wander down corridors with restored painted ceilings, wooden paneling, oil paintings and original frescoes. The hotel is adorned with unique antiques and beige Egyptian marble.

At Casa Gangotena, explore the surrounding UNESCO Heritage city on foot with a knowledgeable local guide, or kick back in the spa for a cleansing demonstration with a local herbalist followed by Ecuadorian chocolate tasting.

Head upstairs to the rooftop terrace on the third floor for views of the Iglesia de San Francisco church opposite, and the hillside of Panacillo twinkling at dusk. Relax with sundowners and enjoy seamless luxury at the beginning or the end of your Ecuador adventure.
