Couples, Families & Honeymooners.
Basecamp Hotel can be found in the town of Longyearbyen, which is the only permanently populated town on the island of Spitsbergen, which forms the bulk of the Svalbard Archipelago.
Although only home to around 2,400 permanent residents the town’s population swells each year, particularly during the summer season from June-September as cruise ships come and go on their routes to explore Svalbard.
Basecamp Hotel is open throughout the year, so it is the perfect overnight before or after a cruise or perhaps for a visit of a few days or longer out of peak season to enjoy the many activities on the island.
It has 16 rooms of various formats to suit all travellers, from a single room right up to a suite that sleeps four and is complete with its own lounge.
The hotel is conveniently located in the centre of town, so it is easy to visit one of the many fine restaurants or perhaps a visit to the worlds northernmost brewery. Many activities are on offer, including trips to Basecamp Hotel’s more remote sister properties of the Trappers Station, Isfjord Radio or Nordenskiöld Lodge or depending on the season a chance to see the northern lights, snow mobile adventures, dog sledding/ buggying, hikes, boat safaris and more.
The hotel can accommodate up to 40 guests in 16 rooms and no room is alike. The hotel has been designed to echo an authentic trapper’s cabin, down to the very smallest details. Nestle on comfortable sofas adorned with reindeer or seal skins and marvel at the craftmanship of the woodwork that is integral in the structure and atmosphere of the hotel.
Although each room is different, they all have comfortable beds, a private bathroom and free Wi-Fi. There is a single room, four double or twin rooms with either two single beds or one double, nine triple rooms with single beds and a bunk bed and two suites which are perfect for a family of four with a bedroom, a living room and loft with two extra beds.
There is a dining area where breakfast is served between 7 and 10 am along with free tea, coffee and hot chocolate available at all times. One of our favourite parts of the hotel is the glass-roofed Cognac loft on the second floor where you are welcome to relax and look for the northern lights in the winter or enjoy the midnight sun in the summer.
Facilities includes a range of room types, glass-roofed loft, dining area, free Wi-Fi and many activities on offer in the region.
Stays are on a bed and breakfast basis but tea, coffee and hot chocolate are available at all times.
Basecamp Hotel has obtained certification for their environmental efforts from Eco-lighthouse, which is Norway’s most widely used certification scheme which aims to create more environmentally friendly enterprises and safer work environments. They set out industry-specific requirements of which Basecamp Hotel has been independently assessed against and must undergo re-certification every three years along with submitting annual environmental reports.
Why not add a night on at Basecamp Hotel before or after one of the fantastic cruises, that we offer, giving you more time either to settle in and acclimatize before your voyage or to explore the mainland of Spitsbergen.
