Couples, Adults & Honeymooners

The Sea Spirit has the feel of a luxury hotel to its passengers numbering a maximum of just 114. It was originally built in Italy in 1991 and since then it has had several updates, most recently in 2017 where around $2.5 million was spent on refurbishing all the suites onboard.

Certainly, one of the most luxurious ships in polar waters all the rooms are classed as suites and the ‘smallest’ is a spacious 215 square feet. Every suite has a private bathroom and an exterior view and 15 of the suites in the deluxe, premium or owner’s categories even have private balconies to enjoy the incredible landscapes of the Arctic or Antarctica.

Highly maneuverable and with an ice-strengthened hull the Sea Spirit is fully capable of navigating narrow channels, as might be found in the fjords of Spitsbergen on an Arctic cruise for example. A set of fin stabilizers which are retractable also aid smoother sailing in choppy waters to enhance your enjoyment aboard.

The expert crew on board go out of their way to foster a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and the open bridge policy allows you to interact with the captain and the officers should you wish. An expedition parka is complimentary during any voyage and is as useful as it is a wonderful keepsake. Hardy rubber boots are also included to use during the trip, both will be needed during trips on one of the 10 zodiacs used to further explore the polar environs.

The ship

The recent, extensive refurbishment in 2016/17 also included a fresh update to the common areas which now feel spacious and contemporary. To keep you entertained during your voyage there is a cosy library with a good selection of relevant books and DVDs, an outdoor hot tub, numerous outdoor decks, a well-stocked bar in the Club Lounge, a small shop and a gym with aerobic equipment and space for stretching or yoga. The presentation lounge is full of state-of-the-art equipment and it is where all educational lectures and briefings will take place.

The 60 suites are all of a high quality and range from the triple suites with have two twin beds, which can be converted to a king, as well as a sofa bed. They are 226 square feet in size with a picture window, ensuite bathroom, TV/DVD and a refrigerator. The top end of the scale is the huge 463 square feet ‘Owners Suite’, along with the king size bed, there is also a sofa bed to accommodate a third person and a living room with a BOSE stereo system and sliding glass doors leading to an incredible private deck.

Facilities

Facilities on Sea Spirit include a variety of different suite options, a restaurant, outdoor bistro, bar, presentation lounge, hot tub, gym, library, open bridge policy and small shop.

Dining

Meals are offered in a communal, open-seated restaurant setting and breakfasts and lunches are buffet style whereas the evening meal is normally a three-course affair. When the weather suits lunches might be served on deck in the outdoor bistro.

Why Wayfairer

Although originally built in 1991, Sea Spirit has been kept to up to ensure it operates in the most efficient and sustainable manner possible. For example, in May 2019 it was retrofitted with new Rolls Royce zero-speed fin stabilizers. These provide high-performance roll damping while sailing, drifting or at anchor they are fully compatible with environmentally acceptable lubricants. Sea Spirit also uses high-quality low-sulphur marine gas oil with a sulphur content equal or less to 0.50%, which is a new requirement set by the International Maritime Organization for ships outside designed emission control areas.
