Why we love it

Whether it's the whirlpool bathtub in the Evita room or the impressive tapestry of Che Guevara up on the third floor, Legardo Mitico perfectly honours the past whilst still feeling both comfortable and contemporary. The use of biophilic design - especially on the impressively overgrown garden wall - breathes life into the place and creates a feeling of secluded escape from inside the city. It almost goes with saying that staying at this stylish getaway feels like an unforgettable occasion. But it's also perfectly placed just a stone’s throw away from some of Buenos Aires' best spots for culture and cuisine, making this one of the ultimate Argentinian escapes.

Indulge in contemporary comforts against iconic Argentine history

Legardo Mitico is just 6 kilometres (under 4 miles) from Jorge Newbery Airport, and it’ll be a short but colourful drive through the streets of Palermo to get here. But despite the buzzing atmosphere of its location, this boutique hotel offers a sophisticated place to press pause on the excitement of city life.

The library at Legado Mitico has floor-to-ceiling dark wood bookcases, a large painting in its middle and armchairs.
The patio at Legado Mitico is wooden and surrounded by tall walls that have plants climbing up them, and there is an outdoor seating area.
The bedrooms at Legado Mitico are airy, with wooden floors, lots of natural sunlight, a doubled bed with an orange blanket and wooden shelves.
The bathroom has a wooden chest of drawers with a sink above it, a bathtub and a toilet.

Upon arrival at the hotel’s opulent, dark wooden doorway, it becomes clear that guests here are in for something special. From the well-stocked bookcase and low-key lighting to the ornate rugs that furnish the hotel’s gleaming floors, there’s a sophisticated attention to detail around every corner here.

But it should come as no surprise that Legado Mitico would be so effortlessly cool when it's located in the heart of Buenos Aires’ most trendy neighbourhood: Palermo Soho.

Just a minute’s walk away from this tenement-turned-hotel is the epicentre of Palermo’s vibrant and fashionable neighbourhood (or barrio). And one of the buzziest and most bohemian areas is Feria de Plaza Serrano. This colourful open-air market is overflowing with stylish stalls and craft booths selling everything from boutique jewellery to designer apparel and accessories. The good thing is that it's sandwiched between an almost endless array of atmospheric cafes where you can sit, relax and watch the city whiz by, perhaps with a fruity glass of Argentinian Malbec or an invigorating cup of cortado (coffee).

Looking to drop things down a gear? Travellers can escape Palermo’s crowded and characterful streets by strolling around The Botanical Gardens. This luscious oasis is home to over 6,000 species of plants and trees - not to mention the vast array of striking statues and sculptures peaking through the undergrowth. It’s also well worth taking a walk to Recoleta Cemetery, too. This is widely considered one of the most unique and unforgettable burial sites in the world. Much more magical than macabre, you’ll find over 6,000 stately pillars and stone memorials for as far as the eye can see, fitting tributes for some of Argentina’s most legendary figures buried here. Perfect for any history buff, Recoleta Cemetery is where you’ll find the final resting place of Eva Perón (Evita)

The former first lady of Argentina is just one of many Argentinian icons immortalised through the elegant interiors of Legardo Mitico. Staying even a single night here is like taking a colourful trip back in time. But one that's comfortably equipped with all the modern amenities you’d expect from a 21st-century high-end hotel. Perfect for the city explorer who appreciates a more characterful take on luxury, these refined and romantic restrooms are the definition of boutique.

An abstract painting of men on a boat has paintbrushes in front of it. The lounge at Legado Mitico has wooden floors, inside plants, a stone fireplace and wooden tables and sofas.

The Hotel

Rich Argentinian history runs through the fibres of every fabric throughout Legado Mitico. And each of its decadently decorated rooms nods to an emblematic personality from the world of art, politics, music or literature. And that means there is a wide variety of characterful room types to choose from - all split into three categories: Mythical Deluxe (The First Lady, Argentine Polo and The Tanguero), Mythical Superiors (The Liberator, The Hero, The Painter and The Writer) and Mythical Classic (The Gaucho, The Contestant, The Arrabalera and The Patron). Despite offering different levels of luxury, e.g. the choice of your own private patio or a picturesque balcony view, all rooms are lavish and well-sized. You’ll also find a minibar, climate-controlled air conditioning and a 40-inch TV with premium cable channels. So, if you want to hole up in your hotel room for a while, it’s entirely guilt-free.

Facilities

This boutique hotel has everything you need for a cool, comfortable and memorable stay. Guests can freshen up under their private and powerful rainfall shower heads or head over to the onsite for various invigorating treatments. The two treatment rooms offer a variety of massages, facials, body scrubs, reflexology and aromatherapy treatments; it's also fully equipped with a sauna and hot tub to help you slip away into a state of complete R&R. If you need to reconnect, though, there's free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and plenty of electrical adaptors and chargers. Just browse the hotel library, head over to the terrace or relax by the hotel fireplace while you wait.

Dining

Whether you’ve got a sweet or savoury tooth, guests are well-catered for at the breakfast table. Start the day with a heavenly spread of freshly squeezed orange juice, yoghurts, cooked meats, cereals and cheeses - without mentioning the fantastic selection of pastries; the medialunas (sweet croissants) are our favourites. Although Legardo Mitico doesn't have a formal restaurant, the helpful staff can point you towards the best spots for lunch and dinner in the area. And take our word for it: there are plenty of delectable options right on your doorstep.

How this hotel makes your trip more responsible

The city of Buenos Aires may be bright and bustling, but it’s still a responsible choice for any conscious traveller. There are plenty of fantastic local businesses you can support during your stay in the city, and it’s filled with luscious green spaces where you can press pause and enjoy the fruits of nature. Bosques de Palermo (Palermo Woods) and the Japanese Garden are bewitching spots for sunny strolls and picturesque snaps, so pack a hearty picnic and enjoy the views. Moreover, the beautiful Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve - located just along the Río de la Plata - is under a 20-minute drive from Palermo and offers a tranquil retreat to roam around in. Covering 350 hectares and home to striking bird species like the  glittering-bellied emerald and red-crested cardinal, this is the biggest and most biodiverse green space in Buenos Aires.
