And if that’s what you choose, you won’t have to because the elegant country house has everything you could need to enjoy an Argentinian holiday. It’s owned by an Italian couple, Valentina and Fabrizio, who moved here in 2006 and redesigned the terracotta-roofed and white-washed ranch-style building using traditional furniture and architecture. But its humble and down-to-earth façade immediately lets guests know that the homestay is family-oriented, so much so that by the end of your stay, you’ll feel as if this place is your own and the staff are your family.

Attention to detail is key here, focusing on celebrating and highlighting the beauty of the Argentinian landscape and culture. Rich colours, textiles, artefacts and fabrics from local artisans, like cowhide rugs, woven ponchos, and old furniture, embody the spirit of Argentina’s history. But that’s not all; comfort and unique experiences are also important to the team at Finca Valentina, from a lounge stocked with bookshelves and a cosy couch, an in-room spa and beauty treatments, and a large outdoor pool to cooking classes and long horseback riding sessions.

And after all this excitement and activity, you’ll need a soft pillow to lay your head upon. Thankfully, Finca Valentina offers so much more than that. There are only a handful of rooms and two suites. Still, all are spacious with light and earthy tones, featuring furniture selected by the owners during their travels across the globe, giving each bedroom a unique and distinctive character. The Suite Deluxe is the only room on the top floor, ideal for couples looking for privacy, and it has a large terrace overlooking the Andes and starry nights.

On the other hand, families will find the Family Room convenient as its suite has two connecting rooms, a bathroom with a bathtub, and a private patio overlooking the quietest part of the garden so children can run around as loudly as they like. It’s little wonder Finca Valentina has won awards for being an excellent family-friendly establishment! Larger groups will opt for the family room or book the Villa Deluxe, a house with three bedrooms, a kitchen, a lounge, and a dining area, all fitting up to six guests.

Fabrizio runs a tour operator called Socompa, offering excursions in the desert and Salta City. The latter is overflowing with colonial architecture and the soft tunes of folk music. And that’s not all; the cloud forests of Reserva del Huaico surround the city, which showcases the area’s phenomenal landscape, while its museums and walking tours offer an intimate insight into Salta’s ancient history, all of which might just be worth leaving the peaceful haven of Finca Valentina.

The swimming pool at Finca Valentina is rectangular shape, with sun loungers and white umbrellas circling it.
At Finca Valentina, enjoy breakfast in bed, which comes on a tray with flowers, coffee, juice and pastries.

The Property

Finca Valentina is made up of seven bedrooms and two suites. These range from standard to family rooms, all of which contain ample space, plenty of natural daylight and a light and earthy décor that represents the beauty of Argentina and other exotic countries across the globe. Enjoy cowhide rugs, woven ponchos, textile blankets and age-worn wardrobes.

Tradition is a major focus here, so you won’t find incongruous details; instead, each room is designed to benefit from a natural breeze and ceiling fans. But modern amenities like heated floors, a private patio, deep bathtubs, local bath products, in-room massages, and more are included to make your stay as comfortable and as decadent as possible. Add this to the direct garden access and majestic mountain views, surrounded by pure serenity and birdlife, and these rooms will become your haven.

In addition, a deluxe villa sleeps a maximum of six guests in three bedrooms; one is an ensuite with a queen-size bed, and the others have single and queen beds. Beyond this, there’s a living and dining room, outdoor armchairs, and a fully equipped kitchen to enjoy quiet nights.

Facilities

Combine free WiFi and acres of rolling green grounds, and what do you have? The best of both worlds! For those looking for a quiet moment to themselves, the lounge, complete with a cosy couch, shelves of books, DVDs and CDs, and a roaring log fire, is the spot to go. Or keep to your room and indulge in an in-room spa and beauty treatments that’ll send you into a blissful oblivion. Although Finca Valentina’s interior is intoxicating, you won’t be staying indoors for long because children, or the more active among you, will enjoy playing badminton and football, resting on the garden’s wooden decks featuring cushioned recliners, or swimming in the unheated pool with a solarium.

Many activities are available, including cooking classes teaching how to make traditional empanadas salteñas and horseback riding across the countryside and mountains. Two bikes are available for guests to borrow and explore the landscape on their own terms. Lastly, the owners run an agency that offers excursions into the local area, and you can book directly with the hotel.

Dining

Home-cooked and fresh breakfasts are included in the room price, including cereals and croissants. Lunch and dinner are served upon request at the long table in the living room, where candles are lit at night, and the log fire burns brightly in the winter. All meals can be adapted for children, and there is also a barbecue area.

How this property makes your trip more responsible

Finca Valentina is committed to taking care of the beautiful surrounding environment. For starters, the property does not sell plastic bottles; instead, each room is provided with a jug of fresh mineral water, which can be refilled without charge and as many times as the guest desires. Similarly, refillable containers are used for amenities like shampoo and conditioner, and towels and bedding are only changed upon request. Reusable bags are used for the property’s shopping, and the team take plastic and glasses to the recycling centre themselves. Outside, the garden grows its vegetables for the restaurant, and wastewater is processed and filtered for use in the garden
