Rwanda is an incredible destination for those with adventurous children aged 16 and over – especially if they have an interest in gorillas, chimpanzees and monkeys.
Undoubtedly the highlight of any visit to Rwanda is tracking wild chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest and endangered mountain gorillas in Parc National des Volcans - however there are strict age restrictions for these activities. You must be 16 years of age to track chimpanzees, and 15 years of age to track gorillas.
If you would like to plan a family vacation to Rwanda with children who are aged 16 or over, our Travel Specialists can create an unforgettable adventure which includes a full day in the dense forests of Nyungwe National Park tracking chimpanzees and spotting monkeys, baboons and other wildlife, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience trekking in the Parc National des Volcans in search of a gorilla family.
As well as these incredible wildlife experiences, we recommend that your older children also take the time to learn about Rwanda’s history, specifically the 1994 genocide, and we suggest that you visit the Genocide Memorial and Education Centre in Kigali which is a permanent memorial to those who were killed during the genocide. Visiting the centre is a sobering experience that you and your teenage children will never forget.
