Journey down to the local watering hole at Nxai Pan Camp and watch the wilderness come to life

Perched on the western edge of the Nxai Pan (fossil pan) in Botswana’s Great Salt Pans region, this camp offers beautiful views of the salt-crusted land, rich flora and fauna in the harshest of environments, and a unique insight into the annual zebra migration through Nxai Pan National Park.

Nxai Pan Camp is owned by the Kwando Safaris group, which is one of the best photography safari companies in Botswana; noted for gorgeous camps set in diverse wildlife destinations (usually private concessions), highly trained and professional guides, plus a personal touch.

Enjoy days of classic safari game drives across the grasslands of zebra, which create an optical illusion of moving stripes. Sip sundowners, then stargaze up at the Milky Way, making the most of the dark Botswanan skies and your remote location, far from any impeding light pollution.

Follow in the footsteps of the nomadic San Bushmen, who will teach you about the land from another perspective, including how to hunt, how to gather food and find water, as well as how to use the indigenous plantlife of the region for medicinal purposes.

Don’t miss a picnic excursion to Baines’ Baobabs, a colony of towering baobab trees immortalised in paint by artist/adventurer Thomas Baines in the 19th century. Compare the paintings of these ethereal landscapes to the real thing, and you’ll wonder at how little has changed in 150 years.
