Couples, Families (6 years+) and Honeymooners
As you might expect from the name of the lodge, Camp Moremi has an enviable location in the Moremi Game Reserve overlooking the beautiful, palmed fringes of Xakanaxa (Ka-ka-na-ka) Lagoon.
Expect to see a wealth of birdlife in these rich waterways as well as in the mature leadwood and jackalberry trees that shade the bulk of the lodge. During our last visit to the lodge, we enjoyed some fantastic sightings of, normally skittish, green pigeons in the trees around the raised viewing deck/cum bar. As well as this when we arrived, we had just missed wild dogs passing through camp pursuing an impala, such is the density of wildlife in this prime area of the Moremi Game Reserve, such events are not that uncommon.
The lodge was completely rebuilt in 2018 and it looks fantastic, the 12-modern safari ‘tents’ can be found along pleasing wooden walkways that wind between the riverine landscape and the central areas.
Activities focus on twice daily boat cruises and game drives to explore the Moremi Game Reserve, because of the restrictions in this park, no off-roading, walking or night activities are allowed. This is certainly one of the best lodges in the area, along with Camp Moremi’s sister camp Camp Xakanaxa and Okuti, which is located a little further along the same waterway. Because of the number of lodges in the area, at key sightings there can sometimes be several other vehicles.
Camp Moremi caters for 24 guests in a maximum of 12 spacious safari tents, including one family tent which includes two separate bedrooms and bathrooms, separated by interleading doors. All rooms have views of the lagoon and the floodplains beyond, which you can enjoy from the private deck of each tents and keep a look out for passing elephants and other wildlife.
The rooms are canvas in structure, with thatched roofs giving them a more permanent and solid structure than a more traditional, meru design found in some camps of the Moremi and Okavango Delta. Inside, the lengthy rooms have a large bed (complete with mosquito nets) to one side and a living room area facing large folding windows, which can be opened up completely, making the most of the views. At the other side of the tent, is the bathroom area with double sinks and showers.
We were really impressed by the substantial communal area at Camp Moremi when we last visited. Upon first arrival from Xakanaxa Airstrip you will notice the curio shop, reception/office and central bathrooms before moving up to the dining room, bar, lounge and library. Heading towards the lagoon you notice the winding walkways heading down to the boats as well as a sunken firepit, boma deck and small sparkling swimming pool.
Facilities include luxury safari tents, a swimming pool, library, lounge, bar, boat cruises and game drives.
Full board and activities is the normal board basis so all meals and most drinks are included. Dining is usually communal but private dining can also be requested.
