You’ll start your Highlights of Argentina Tour in the captivating capital of Buenos Aires, home to lively tango halls, historical barrios (neighbourhoods), leafy parks, trendy cafes, and stadiums full of the most passionate football fans.

Next, you’ll head far south to El Calafate, the gateway to Los Glaciares National Park, the Perito Moreno Glacier, Tierra del Fuego, Estancia Cristina and breathtaking Patagonia.

Trip Itinerary

Days 1 - 3: Buenos Aires

Day 1 - Arrival in Buenos Aires

You’ll be met at Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires by a Wayfairer representative who will escort you by private car to Casa Sur Palermo Hotel, your accommodation for the next three nights. Enjoy VIP service as you are driven to the centre of the city, arriving in the vibrant Palermo area.

Casa Sur Palermo Hotel is a sophisticated hotel furnished with hardwood floors, minimalist furniture and elegant styling. It’s located in the Palermo Hollywood neighbourhood, surrounded by cafes, bars, art galleries and the best restaurants in town. Spend the evening exploring the lively streets, relax with a coffee, and enjoy a delicious meal to celebrate your first night in Argentina.

Day 2 - Exploring Buenos Aires

After breakfast, you’ll be met at your hotel by your private English-speaking guide for a half-day city tour of Buenos Aires. Your guide will help you get a handle on this dynamic city, taking you to all the dazzling sites.

You’ll walk down Avenida 9 de Julio, the widest avenue in the world, marvel at the beauty of the Teatro Colon Opera House, and wander around the Plaza de Mayo and Casa Rosada, the famous pink government house. Roam from the historical, Italian-immigrant districts of La Boca and San Telmo, where the city was born, to the modern Puerto Madero docklands area, filled with trendy cafes, superb restaurants and stylish people.

Finally, you’ll head to the Recoleta neighbourhood to visit the massive cemetery and the graves of Argentina’s most famous figures, before ending your tour in leafy Palermo. Your guide will adapt the tour to your personal interests, so if you’re a foodie, history buff or architectural enthusiast, be sure to let your guide know. They’ll also point you in the right direction of places of interest for your own explorations.

Day 3 - Exploring Buenos Aires

Spend the morning exploring the intoxicating city of Buenos Aires. The streets are bursting with fantastic coffee shops, antique boutiques, craft markets, museums, galleries, wonderful bars and restaurants and rich cultural and architectural heritage stemming from generations of Spanish, Italian, German, French and Russian immigrant influence.

In the evening, you’ll enjoy a Dinner & Tango Show. The tango is intrinsic to Buenos Aires culture, and you’ll discover the history and beauty of the dance at the El Querandí tango hall. The tango will take you on a journey with its passionate, rhythmic chords and sensual movements, and you’ll enjoy the best of Argentine cuisine after the show.

Days 4 - 6: El Calafate

Day 4 - Transfer to El Calafate

After breakfast, you’ll be met at your hotel by your private driver and transferred to Jorge Newbery Airport. You’ll board your domestic flight to El Calafate, where you’ll be met by a private driver at the airport and driven to Koi Aiken, your hotel, for the next three nights.

Koi Aiken is a charming hotel, set in spectacular natural surroundings, with breathtaking views of the mountains and lake. You’ll be located close to the famous glaciers of Argentina, as El Calafate is the gateway to the Los Glaciares National Park, one of the most stunning landscapes in the country. Here you’ll find massive blue icebergs floating in dazzling turquoise waters and the colossal Perito Moreno Glacier.

Day 5 - Perito Moreno Glacier Excursion

Enjoy an early breakfast in preparation for your full-day excursion to the mighty Perito Moreno Glacier. You’ll be met at your hotel by a shared transfer to Los Glaciares National Park, the world-renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is an 80 km journey to the iconic Perito Moreno, and you’ll have plenty of stops to take pictures. You’ll be accompanied by an expert national park guide who will give you an overview of the natural wonders of the park and answer all your questions. Your entrance fees to the national park are included.

As you enter the Andean Patagonian forest area, you’ll stop at Curva de los Suspiros (Sighs Curve), where you’ll catch your first breathtaking glimpse of the Perito Moreno. After heading deeper into the national park, you’ll be guided along the platforms with spellbinding views of the dazzling glacier. You’ll have time on your own to take in this incredible wonder and sit in silence as you listen to the ethereal sounds of ice cracking off into the milky waters.

You’ll also have the chance to hike over the Perito Moreno on an optional ‘Minitrekking’ excursion. It’s important to note that this optional activity is only available for people under 65 years, and you’ll need sports or trekking shoes, warm clothes, sunscreen and a packed lunch.

Day 6 - Exploring El Calafate

Today is a free day to discover El Calafate at your leisure. We recommend taking a full-day excursion to Estancia Cristina, a stunning icy wilderness in the heart of Los Glaciares National Park. You’ll take a boat ride over the Lago Argentino, passing huge icebergs and the Upsala Glacier before touching down in Estancia Cristina.

Here you can trek through the stunning Andes, see the Cañadón de los Fósiles, a gorge filled with ancient marine fossils, go fishing for Patagonian trout, tour a Patagonian ranch, and learn about the history and culture of the traditional Patagonian Gauchos. Another option in the region is El Chaltén, a gorgeous village within Los Glaciares National Park. You’ll find a string of shops along San Martín, one of the main streets, and a myriad of entry points to trails around the mountains. You can venture around the Cerro Torre and Mount Fitz Roy mountains, see the Laguna de los Tres viewpoint, or head to the shores of Laguna Capri for spectacular mountain views.

Days 7 - 9: Mendoza

Day 7 - Transfer to Mendoza

After breakfast, you’ll be met at the hotel by your private driver and transferred to El Calafate Airport for your domestic flight to Mendoza. On arrival in Mendoza, you’ll be met by your private driver for your transfer to Lares de Chacras, your accommodation for the next three nights.

Lares de Chacras is a gorgeous boutique hotel set in the Maipú area, designed with wooden furnishings, soft lighting, stone cellars and luxurious amenities. ‘Lares’ means ‘home, own household’, and in Ancient Rome, Lares were the gods that protected home. The hotel founders chose this name as they created Lares to feel like home for guests, and you’ll be warmly welcomed here.

Day 8 - Mendoza Winery Tour

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before heading out on a full-day private winery tour, with tastings and entrance fees included. You’ll be met by your English-speaking guide and taken to the famed vineyards of Mendoza, including the stunning vineyards of Lujan de Cuyo and Maipu. You’ll enjoy wine tastings and learn about the history of the region, the vinification process from grape-growing to bottling, and the ingenious irrigation system developed by the Huarpe people over 500 years ago.

You’ll also have the option to take a biking tour through the wineries. This optional activity takes you around the vineyards on two wheels, allowing you to soak up the beautiful landscapes and renowned wineries of Lujan de Cuyo.

Day 9 - Exploring Mendoza

Today is a free day to explore Mendoza at your leisure. Known as the wine capital of Argentina and the city of eternal sunshine, Mendoza is the perfect place to learn about wine production and taste some of the world’s finest wines. Enjoy a leisurely lunch in the sunshine, pairing some of Argentina’s tastiest cuisine with excellent wines, as you gaze out over the majestic Andes mountain ranges.

The highest peak in the Andes and the Americas, Mount Aconcagua, can be seen from Mendoza. Towering to a height of 6,954m, the mountain can be visited on a full-day trip, and you can trek along the spectacular hiking trails. Those looking for adventure can also try kayaking or horse riding in this beautiful region.

Days 10 - 12: Puerto Iguazú

After breakfast, you’ll be met at the hotel by your private driver and transferred to Mendoza airport, where you’ll board a domestic flight for Puerto Iguazú. On arrival at the airport, you’ll be met by your private chauffeur and transferred to Loi Suites jungle hotel, your accommodation for the next two nights.

Loi Suites is a luxurious hotel nestled within the Iryapú Jungle. Surrounded by soaring trees, incredible wildlife and beautiful nature, the hotel was built with a focus on environmental preservation. Spend the afternoon enjoying the outdoor heated swimming pool, pool bar, and spa, or indulge in a delicious meal at the onsite restaurant.

Day 11 - Exploring Iguazú Falls

Today you’ll see the thundering Iguazú Falls, the largest waterfall system in the world and one of nature’s greatest feats. After breakfast, you’ll be met by your private guide and driven to the reserve. You’ll set out into the jungle with your expert guide, covering three different viewpoints of the Argentine side of the falls. Your entrance fee to the Argentine side of the park is included.

The Lower Circuit takes you along walkways and challenging stairways, designed to offer an intimate encounter with enchanting cascades and breathtaking views of the falls. The Upper Circuit provides the most incredible panoramic view of the falls and the river, while the thundering Devil’s Throat Gorge offers an astounding display of nature’s force. You’ll move between each point on the Green Train, a circuit of ecological trains winding along the river through the jungle. As you move through the jungle, your expert guide will point out wildlife, plants and other treasures of the trees.

Day 12 - Depart from Argentina

Today you’ll say farewell to Argentina, but not before one last adventure. After breakfast, you’ll be picked up with your luggage and driven to the border crossing to the Brazilian side of the falls, for a final moment with this spectacular natural wonder.

The Brazilian side offers a magnificent panoramic view, and you’ll spend two hours with your expert guide, who will point out the fascinating wildlife and plants of the jungle. Your entrance fee to the Brazilian side of the park is included. After the tour, you’ll be driven to the Foz de Iguaçu Airport for your return flight home.

Although your incredible Argentina holiday has come to an end, we hope you’ll be leaving with many special memories and stories to share.
