The Ocean Adventurer is the new name for the Sea Adventurer, given to the boat after a multi-million-dollar renovation in 2017. Originally built, in what was then, Yugoslavia in 1976, it has been kept up to date with several refurbishments in 1999, 2002 and then most recently in 2017. It won the 2017 Travel Weekly Magellan Award for Overall Small Cruise Ship (500 passengers or under) in 2017.
This nimble ship with a cruising speed of 12.5 knots is one of the faster ships out there and with it’s class 1A ice-strengthened hull it is very capable in the extreme conditions of the Antarctic. With the 2017 renovation comes a contemporary and refreshed look throughout the ship and to each of the 65 cabins.
The communal areas include a small gym, a smart dining room, the polar boutique gift shop, a 24 hour library with a host of games and relevant books and the main lounge which also serves as the lecture hall for presentations and movies. We particularly like the ‘Breezeway’ which is a semi-enclosed passageway running along the outside of the ship, which allows for excellent views while affording some protection from the elements.
From a technical point of the view the Ocean Adventurer upgraded to two new Rolls-Royce engines, which significantly increased full efficiency and reduced it’s carbon footprint.
